Vets have suggested that canines who spend a lot of time in the sun should sport goggles or visors to protect them from crippling eye conditions.
Alison Thomas, head vet at the animal charity Blue Cross, said: "Sunglasses are not essential summer wear and shouldn't be used for fashion.
"However, sunglasses which block UV can be helpful for some dogs."
Dog owner Miluse Vojtiskova has claimed that wearing shades helped her poodle Celine cope with iris atrophy - which means that she struggles to filter bright light.
She discovered the problem when the pooch jumped out in front of a car in the sun.
Miluse said: "That shocked me because I had no idea she was in pain. From an active life she went to zero. She can walk outside now and do anything she did before." |
