Car tyre emissions are 2000 times worse than exhaust emissions

Research from emissions analysts reveals car tyre particulates, through road wear produces more harmful toxic particulates than from exhausts.

2000 times worse

So if Uk had 32 million electric cars instead of currently 32 million petrol and diesel ones, the tyres will still produce the equivalent pollution of 64 billion cars (that’s just the UK)

Globally there are one billion cars, scaling up that wound be equivalent pollution of 2 trillion vehicles.

What does this say for the rush to go green, electric vehicles etc.

I didn’t realise conventional cars didn’t use tyres lol.

Maybe a second study needs to be undertaken.

The heavier electric vehicles do wear tyres quicker

And not to mention the consequences and heavier weights in potential crashes

So basically, replace all ICE vehicles with Electric and you still get roughly the same particulates emissions from the tires.

You do however eliminate all of the exhaust emissions still, so overall there is a reduction in emissions

Yes… because when people start to make comparisons with how much pollution is created in making electric cars and producing electricity, they always conveniently forget to include the pollution created from MAKING petrol and diesel to fuel ICE cars…

It takes massive amounts of energy and emissions just to get Petrol and Diesel in the first place, and that’s before you burn it in an engine

I should know, Oil refining is my job

Just looked the study up, it actually says “potentially up to 1000 times more” not 2000

It also states that Non Exhaust Emissions (NEEs) are currently believed to constitute the majority of primary particulate matter from road transport, 60 percent of PM2.5 and 73 percent of PM10 …. So replacing ICE cars would mean a 40% and 27% reduction respectively

Just looked the study up, it actually says “potentially up to 1000 times more” not 2000

I came up with the perfect cure for the environment but the big heads wont use it

Use all the waste plastics and melt it down for roads afterall it lives forever and they dont need to pay for roadworks every other street

Yes… because when people start to make comparisons with how much pollution is created in making electric cars and producing electricity, they always conveniently forget to include the pollution created from MAKING petrol and diesel to fuel ICE cars…

Interesting, so if average uk mileage is 9,000 a year (VOSA)

It takes 6 years at least then for EV to be environmentally beneficial.
