About 8 years ago I was out in Afgan. They put me with an American electrician. Well it was an American base. It was quite a funny relationship. We hated each other at first. Why there were days when we couldn't stand the sight of each other. Then one day we were in the van and he cried his heart out(to me) his long time girlfriend back home had been cheating on him and yet he desperately wanted her back. I could not believe it. Why she's rotten. Then a few days later there was a one of the soldiers who really fancied my mate, why she was all over him. However he was still in love with his ex. But what really struck me about my new work partner was his ethics and morals. He was just a good man. He had an incredibly high sex drive yet he wouldn't cheat on his girlfriend back home. |

I got in a spot of legal (but pretty minor in the grand scheme of things) trouble and the CEO of the company stuck his neck on the line and made sure I had a job when it was all over, I've had a relatively successful career as a civil engineer in the 16 years since so I owe all that to him. |

"I have met a lot of people during my many years who may have influenced my choices and decisions. But, I have learnt there is only one person who can truly change my life and that is me! "

3 people.
My ALevel history teacher. We’re still in contact. He is the first man in my life that really embraced a father like role and told me how proud of me he was. And helped me to navigate some difficult experiences with racism.
My partner- we met when I was 17 and she just completely took my breath away and has been there for me through the toughest of times, rooting for me.
One of my best friends. She’s 59. We met on twitter and then at an event. And she’s someone that has always believed in me, allowed me the space to be myself, loved me for who I am when I’m angry, sad, happy all of it and she goes to all my fave exhibitions with me. She also is a massive anti racist and I need that in my life.
