As the jubilee bank holiday kicks off today, the weekend is due to see a whole host of special events to celebrate the queen's historic 70 year reign meaning much heavier footfall on public transport, with disruption anticipated, it is important to plan ahead before making any journeys,
From thursday, june 2 to sunday, june 5, it’s been noted that travel will likely be affected.
Do you know how it can be justified and why are they on strike, is it over their wages?

"They've just announced it won't be until the 6th now after the jubilee" I got the news about it on routers earlier today, that is good that they have changed it, but still not good to have it as many cant get to work or travel to other places.

I believe it's over pay and conditions. I support their right to strike, but I do hope they get it sorted before the summer holidays, as we have plans to visit people and places and it would be frustrating if we couldn't. |

I agree with the right to strike and understand why but it always seems to be Joe public that gets affected and it alienates the very support that they seek to garner.
This isn’t the 70’s, surely there is another way that they can register their dissent? |

That’s old news really. Night tube has been on strike for months and runs every weekend until early July at the moment.
The other changes on the tube are expected & normal for bank holidays & special events, Saturday service and crowd control tube closures / one way systems. |

Because it’s being going on for months |

It’s quite likely to get worse. The RMT have returned a strike ballot across 15 companies, and ASLEF is in the process of balloting 12 companies.
And yes, it’s about pay (specifically the huge discrepancies across operating companies), changes to Ts & Cs without negotiation and job security. |

Where do they think the money is going to come from for a bigger pay rise than they have been offered " Yes and dont train drivers already earn alot and also tube drivers? |

Yes, train drivers are well paid, but there’s quite a lot of discrepancy between the various operating companies, brought about by the fragmentation of privatisation. Train driving requires a very narrow set of skills and attributes, which is really difficult to find despite no shortage of applicants, and carries huge responsibility. |

Tube drivers are mostly ASLEF. Very few are RMT. RMT is mostly train drivers. I think their issue is over pay. London Underground’s issues are over working conditions, pensions, safety and staff cuts. |

Without meaning to appear rude or facetious, the clue is in the word.... "update"
ie the latest on a previously published issue
No offence intended |

ASLEF only represent train, tube and tram drivers. Union density within the grade is very high, over 96%.
The RMT represents the wider railway grades like guards, platform staff, ticket office etc., although there are some drivers within the RMT it’s a tiny percentage, less than 2%. |
