Honestly I'm not a drinker anymore. Ever since I got into the lifestyle of Tantra. However I do love good quality drinks though. And there's nothing worse than cheap whisky/alcohol. So recently I bought 2 bottles of Macallens 12 and 18 years. Wow I couldn't believe the price of these scotch whiskeys. £50(50 is manageable) for the 12 and £300 for the 18 year old. A lot of people actually buy these as an investment. Unfortunately people tend to finish or open them. |

If there is no end user who values the product for actual consumption, then prices don’t increase, or reach the levels you describe.

Although I do see the idea of investment. There was a time awhile ago that vintage drinks prices wer rising above the banks base rate   "
Yeah they recently sold a large bottle of Macallens at auction for over a million dollars. And the average for a 72 year old sells for £120,000! |

As it was his wedding I wanted to get him something a bit different so I opted for a bottle of Caperdonich 21yo, which was about the top of my budget for a wedding gift. Its from a now closed distillery so no more will be produced. I figured as an investment the price will only go up as the rarity increases plus its a nice whisky if he wants to drink it. |

That one won't start distilling again as i believe it has been demolished so as an investment it is pretty safe.
I suppose it's down to fashion. Whisky seems to be on the rise again, with that comes the demand. |

In Scotland it’s spelt whisky (no e), it’s macallan not macallen, and you referred to whiskey being brewed …

I've just received the Macallans this morning. I've not open it yet. I'm so tempted but one must be strong. I really use to be a Jack Daniels person. I don't want to go down that road of 'man in a bottle' again. Just drink for enjoyment now. Know you have a good bottle when needs be. |

Macallans are among my favourite speysides, and speysides are my favourite scotches.
My absolute favourite is my bottle if Barry Crockett’s Midleton, but national bias probably explains that (I’m irish).
Have also had a few Japanese whiskeys that j absolutely loved. Tried to find an American whiskey that I loved, but have failed so far. |
