"When did it become a month?"
I can’t tell you exactly as there’s a lot of different opinions about it; I think the U.K. officially celebrates it in February but in the US it was declared by Clinton as pride month in June, though events are celebrated globally |

Why is there no heterosexual pride month?.... Again it's the minority who shouts the loudest I won't be celebrating it.... not that I'm a homophobe or transfobic or waysist but I can't see why everyone should make a big deal about it |

Because every day is heterosexual pride day.
In a world where heterosexuality is the assumptive default for every media outlet, film, TV, newspaper, radio, advert or game, then every day is a straight party, you just can’t see it because it’s so prevalent |

It partly depends where it's happening it seems to me.
In Cardiff it's 'officially' in late August (ie according to Pride Cymru).
Last year in Cardiff it was down to individual ie private events though (ie a few pubs etc - which did happen in Auguest). It's back to being more centrally organised this year of course.
Pride seems to be all over the shop in Wales - April, June, July and August depending where you are.
I wonder if there is anything at all in Cardiff this June? |

No one has asked you to celebrate it . It’s not for you. It’s for people who are restricted for being who they are.
You don’t have to worry about looking online for a bar that’s called a heterosexual bar to be yourself. People from the pride community still have to look for gay bars so they can be who they want to be without being judged . |

So true. We don’t mention me being bi in public because it still carries stigma in some places.
Places like fab are also grand for being open and free, though a bar is a grand idea now that things are opening up again. X |

I am not a flag waver, the rainbow flag makes me cringe a bit and I feel a whole month is excessive….BUT I do agree with the sentiment behind it. People are still getting beaten, murdered, ruined in jobs, losing family over sexuality or gender dysmorphia. This hate is more widespread than you think. Society is over-whelmingly geared towards heterosexuals |

So true. I’m also not a rainbow flag wearer and much prefer subtle lesbian flags like little badges myself, but I shouldn’t have to worry about wearing such a small thing! And that’s why we need pride month; because people still say ‘well what about heterosexual month’; no one’s ever been disowned, beaten, killed, or tortured for being heterosexual. |

Which day is Pride Saturation point?
I get that not all of Dan's list are global events, but it is a very long list!
I guess it means that everybody can be proud all year, which is as it should be.

I actually tend to agree with you. Homosexuality has never been so acceptable as it is now yet someone decided we should now go on about it for a whole month. I'd rather it was talked about less myself and became became non subject. That always used to be the aim |

No. I think that you’ve missed the point of why pride is necessary if you’re comparing the LGBTQ community to budgie owners.

Well yes, technically that's true but I don't understand why straight men feel the need to come onto a Gay Pride thread to moan about it? There's literally thousands of straight men threads about big tits and the wife's knickers they could comment on so why bother? |

"Why is there no heterosexual pride month?.... Again it's the minority who shouts the loudest I won't be celebrating it.... not that I'm a homophobe or transfobic or waysist but I can't see why everyone should make a big deal about it
Because every day is heterosexual pride day.
In a world where heterosexuality is the assumptive default for every media outlet, film, TV, newspaper, radio, advert or game, then every day is a straight party, you just can’t see it because it’s so prevalent
Think you've missed my point for a tiny percentage of the population why such a big deal? You never hear of ginger month or budgie owners month
No one’s getting killed for owning a budgie
I am not a flag waver, the rainbow flag makes me cringe a bit and I feel a whole month is excessive….BUT I do agree with the sentiment behind it. People are still getting beaten, murdered, ruined in jobs, losing family over sexuality or gender dysmorphia. This hate is more widespread than you think. Society is over-whelmingly geared towards heterosexuals
So true. I’m also not a rainbow flag wearer and much prefer subtle lesbian flags like little badges myself, but I shouldn’t have to worry about wearing such a small thing! And that’s why we need pride month; because people still say ‘well what about heterosexual month’; no one’s ever been disowned, beaten, killed, or tortured for being heterosexual."

Regardless of what I feel on the matter, I get why people who feel marginalised would want to celebrate & party...it's the summer too so crack on and enjoy yourself if you're going to any outdoor events.
What does rip my knitting however is the blatant commercialisation of Pride. It feels completely disingenuous and no more than a box ticking exercise for many companies. |

I agree regarding the corporate sponsorship of Pride. Feels like it detracts from what Pride is about, the community coming together. Although I recently went to the Swansea Pride March and event, which for some reason was earlier and it was great. Zero corporate influence, all organised by the local LGBT community and some of the trade unions |

"Less is more...
Yep, like I said above
Homosexuality has never been as acceptable as it is now yet someone decided we should now go on about it for a whole month. I'd rather it was talked about less myself and became a non subject. That always used to be the aim"
With respect, you're being naive.
Because there are plenty of people who still hate those who aren't straight, and who would love to roll back the rights won. And they're not going to stop trying to make that happen.
Decent people stopping talking about gay rights, trans rights etc plays right into their hands. |

This thread is fun to watch because there are a few people who out themselves as being complete muppets.
If you don't understand why pride is still needed, look around you and see the anti lgbtqia sentiments that've continued to rise. |

"I see two professional Scottish referees have came out as gay
Really?
That's good yes it was on TalkSPORT today Craig Napier and loyd Wilson. "
Good for them, hopefully this momentum will continue and more will keep coming out in football across the UK. |

Incident of hate crimes based on sexual orientation have risen every year for the last 5+ years and lgbt people face discrimination housing, healthcare, the workplace, sport etc etc.
The UK has also fallen down the league table of best places to live for lgbt people and is currently NOT on the list of safe countries to seek asylum as a trans person.
That's why visibility matters, and why pride events matter.

No; ageist would be me denying him rights and support based off his age. Not me saying a quote because he’s purposely attention seeking and being belligerent on a post that was just meant to be a HAPPY PRIDE POST. |

You should go! Lots of straight people attend pride events too to support their family: and there are straight trans people. Pride is for everyone! (Well, apart from homophobes and transphobes). |

Go to a smaller event would be my advice. The bigger ones (Manchester & London) are corporate now so will cost you just to get into the main areas. Add that to the price of accommodation, food and drink and it’s an expensive few days.
The parades are worth watching but that’s about it.
Either way you’ll be welcomed and should enjoy yourself |
