God, why is it so easy to forget how many absolute grade A bangers these guys came out with???
Also Bloc Party, Kasabian, Razorlight to name but a few... Every time I listen to these kinds of bands it's like reliving my childhood: my older siblings showing me their new music picks, wasting my Saturday job money on NME/Kerrang mags and overpriced CDs from HMV...
What other bands take you right back to circa 15 year ago??

"That is not the golden era of indie. Try Neds, PWEI, The wonderstuff, Carter USM, dinosaur Jr, Echobelly, Sleeper and so many more.
Have I just age checked myself and others?"
Who? |

"Arctic Monkeys are still my faves man. "
I haven't had a chance to listen to their new stuff yet (plus I'm on a real "only listening to stuff I can sing along with" vibe atm) but apparently it's a real departure... |

There's got to be something for everyone in the early 90s indie bag and many current bands wouldnt be here without them - but always one generation influences the next. A few of my favourites:
Stone Roses
Cocteau Twins
Teenage Fanclub
Jesus and Mary Chain
Babybird
The Gin Blossoms
Curve
Belly / The Breeders / Throwing Muses
The Pixies
Gene
God I could go on and on.... |

This
Late 80’s/early 90’s pre Britpop is far superior to the early 00’s- which is about as Indie as R‘n’B is related to proper R&B |

Pretty sure I did that one, along with the 30 goes tour, the ELGM anniversary and fairly sure I went to Bescot back in the day (the whole 90’s is a tad hazy)- I do know I definitely did the secret affair warm up gig a day or two before Bescot- at Junction 10 about a mile away.
Reet annoyed I managed to book my holiday at the same time as the NLE entire album gig in Brum next month |

"My favourite memory of getting backstage after seeing the Charlatans for the 4th time & being convinced that Tim Burgess would definitely try and get off with me
He didn’t!!! #hisloss"
The Charlatans have been my band since the early 90’s. I still see them a couple of times a year - usually one of their own gigs and a festival. Seen them all over the world. Only once made an aftershow party at Hammersmith in about 2006 - was memorable though.
Tim Burgess is great to engage with on Twitter |

Think you’re mixing you’re eras there Fabio- Britpop and Madchester were a bit different IMHO. The former being the whole Blur/Oasis thing and the latter covering SR/Happy Mondays etc.
That’s why Liam Gallagher was able to pretty much steal Ian Browns act- although without the class and coolness of monkey man |

Nah it proved my point. People can be too young or too old to know things, doesn't mean you have to "oh dear" them |

Doja Cat at least was born after all the acts I mentioned and nothing to do with Indie. |

"God, why is it so easy to forget how many absolute grade A bangers these guys came out with???
Also Bloc Party, Kasabian, Razorlight to name but a few... Every time I listen to these kinds of bands it's like reliving my childhood: my older siblings showing me their new music picks, wasting my Saturday job money on NME/Kerrang mags and overpriced CDs from HMV...
What other bands take you right back to circa 15 year ago??

And then the great 2008-2010 era of MGMT, Ting Tings, Vampire Weekend, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Horrors etc |

Omg yes MGMT were so trippy and underrated! I liked the Ting Tings, simple but catchy. VW music was too happy and got on my nerves though |

I still listen to the XX all the time. The only way one should: in a dark room with earphones, preferably while falling asleep
Oli's voice is just so smooth and golden |

The Golden Age?
Has to be the era that produced The Kinks, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Cream, The Move, The Small Faces, The Animals and obviously The Beatles.
Their combined influence shaped pretty much everything that followed. |
