Ok hear me out on this one…
How many dead bodies vs volume of water would it take for not to swim?
Reasoning = you have all swam in the sea at some point and there is dead bodies in there so you must have a ratio |

Also depending on how long they have been dead for, the body deteriorates much quicker in open water due to everything sharks included under the surface being hungry, will float for about twelve hours due to trapped air, according to what I watched on dexter two seasons ago, finally whilst it’s true everything must have a ratio, your questions asks more questions than any normal educated professional psychologist can sift through, I suggest staying indoors ….. for a long time and please do not watch any television |

Bodies in the sea get consumed in their entirity by sea-dwelling organisms. There is nothing left. So if you are thinking there are bodies in the after something like the Titanic going down, then that is a misunderstanding. They have all gone.
Only recent bodies would be there and I can't imagine there being enough of those on a planet which has two thirds of its surface covered by water to make it factor in my choice to swim. Only if there were any near me would it make any difference, and a single body would probably be enough. |

Forensically in a river or a lake the likelihood of you discovering a corpse is much higher than if you were in the sea; the sea is also vast, as opposed to a river or a lake that is situated in pretty much one area; although if you go downstream on the river to dump a body, it will find its way to the sea, and then it becomes a bit of trouble to find it. It might wash up on shore because of the bloating in the body; it depends on the water conditions, the animals, the weather, and the speed of the river.
The smell is going to be pretty bad as water makes bodies decompose faster; if you’re a frequent lake swimmer and you go to your favourite lake and all of a sudden you smell something putrid, you’re gonna wanna get out of there.
If you swim in lakes or rivers diatoms can enter your lungs which are microscopic little atoms from the water; these can stay in your system for years. So, if you are swimming in the river or lake with a dead body, it’s likely you’re going to get diatoms in your body that are mixed with the decomposing corpse.
Bodies dumped into the sea may be eaten, or they may become worse for wear due to saltwater. On the contrary, if you dump a body into a frozen lake, it’s going to freeze, stopping the decomposition process. When the lake eventually de-Ices, it’s going to take a while before it’s discovered as it needs to thaw.
In general terms though, I don’t swim in lakes or rivers or the sea, so I can’t say how many dead bodies it would take me before I stop swimming. |

Fuck the sea, I'm more worried about dead bodies in space. There's none as of yet, BUT just imagine if there were, and one gets pulled into a nearby planet's orbit, and the living material in the tissue evolved and thrived under the planet's environment... |

I saw this question the other day. Most of us wouldn't get into a swimming pool with a dead body in it yet we (nearly) all are happy to get in the sea. This logically means we all have a ratio of water to dead bodies that is a cut off above which we're happy to get in the water.
Having assisted recovering several bodies from various water features my personal ratio is fairly low
Mr |

Last 2 weeks I was in the Bahamas diving with large tiger sharks (no, not large, huge!), we were given the delightful information that if you die in a shipwreck, it's probably those tiger sharks that will eat you |

Something mentioned earlier was mountaineering. Everest is famous for having persevered dead bodies on it. How many would there have to be for someone to feel uncomfortable not climbing it?

The whole bloody thing is full of whale, shark and fish shit, piss and spunk, and dead rotting carcasses of marine life so a bit of dead human doesn’t really matter does it?
Google “sea water under a microscope” and you’ll never enter the ocean again!! |

There are legal ratios for the amount of insect body parts in your bread is one example. Ratio of fart to air before you complain? How many people are killed by toasters before you consider them too hazardous to use?
Our whole lives are based on ratios of what is/isn't acceptable. Like the dead bodies in the sea the limit is usually so far past what we accept as ok that we are not even aware that these ratios exist but they're there. How many murders would there need to be in your town before you considered it too dangerous to leave home? How many women would need to die in childbirth before people start to decide never to have kids?

Dead bodies in the sea don't tend to last very long, they're soon eaten. However, the ratio of dead bodies in fish poop? Now that's an entirely different matter. |
