The cost is worth it to not have to compromise on what I want to do and how I want to spend my time.

This is what I do; costs can be kept down by shopping around I feel that I have more choice than when my travel is tied to my accomodation.

If you pick a resort you will make friends if you want them

If you use hostels the pricing is per person anyway

and you get to meet loads of interesting people.
