"Make up words.
I’ve lived here for for 8 months and I still don’t understand how they came to the noise ‘barm’ for a bread roll "
As they used to take the barm from the beer processing and use it to make the bread, hence barm cake. |

Or - in Yorkshire it’s a bread bun!

"More Southerners come to see The Lake District than we do your concrete carbuncle cities "
How do the tourism figures for the Lakes compare with (for example) Cornwall, Exmoor, Isle of Wight etc?
The dark satanic mills of Northern England aren't so far from the concrete jungle of London ...

"Good afternoon one and all "
We definitely do house prices better!
I piss my southern friends off muchly when I tell ‘em that last spring I bought a newly renovated 3 bed terrace with 3 large bedrooms and a downstairs loo/upstairs bathroom for less than £120k.
That, my friends, is why northerners tend to smile more! |

We can give it but also we can take it lol
We can also get our vehicles up very snowy hills where the southerners canny lol
My pal did that while travelling to England, one wintery day.. apparently one road was closed, police at the bottom and at the top, lorries jackknifed at the bottom making a mess, police telling drivers to stop as the road is hazardous and vehicles not able to get up it….. and then there’s me pal yes she saw the policeman waving his arms trying to get her attention to stop, she wasn’t about too, she had good speed and determination to get up the hill….. and got up it she did…. The police at the bottom had radioed the police at the top to say a van was on its way up… she made it up, the police at the top couldn’t believe it and said that no one had managed to get up it for two hours!, she just said, that’s because I’m Scottish and you’re not, then drove off. |

Perhaps thecability to manage better with what we have but apparently its all levelling up soon if you believe all the promises. I look forward to the new trains busses, airports, businesses and other investments and infrastructure promised up north and then perhaps there will be no divide. |

"We're a fairly small island, approx 847 miles long. Every area has its good stuff and it's bad stuff. There's enough strife in the world without pitting north v south "

I find a decent set of winter tyres do a far better job of predicting ones ability to drive in snow than the location one was born in but hey, what would a soft southerner like me know
I once worked at a factory where only about 7 people turned up one morning due to snow. Two of them had driven over from Southern Germany, having left at 3am, in a rear wheel drive BMW, I'd done my usual 40 mile commute and the rest had walked a they were local. Wonderful things winter tyres.
