okay.... quick bluffers guide...
538 electorial college votes up for grabs (best way of thinking about it is 100 seats in senate, 435 seats in the house, + 3 for DC who gets no representation)
first to 270 wins....
each state plus DC gets a minimum of 3 votes regardless, rest are done proportially dependant of population of the currant census (2010)
all states are winner take all (so you only have to win by 1 vote to get all the booty) with the exception of maine and nebraska who do it by PR....
understand it better now.... |

okay... basically those states with the highest populations get the most votes.... so the big ones are texas 38 (38 votes and republican) california, (55 votes and democrats) New York (29 votes and democrats) and Florida...29 votes
and now you know why Florida is so important....

the lesser of two evils arguement.... which is a fair stance!
there will have to be a lot of soul searching in the republican party because they have gone so far right with there stance on immigation, and the "dream act" they are getting crushed in hispanic and latino voting.... where it was 55-45 in favour of dems under bush, it is now something like 80-20 dem.. which is going to cost him florida, nevada, colorado ect and they are the biggest expanding voting block |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
I am impressed with you all sticking together all night. I watched in bed and every time I drifted off to sleep something would come on to wake me up.
So, everything is the same in terms of the numbers between the House of Representatives and the Senate and Obama has been given a chance.
The votes cast were just too close for comfort in some areas.
I think the Romney camp sent the wrong messages (to those that want to support them) by having their ties and stage dressing in blue.
I think people trust Michelle.
The clear winner was Bill Clinton. |

a couple of things from last night... i went to bed at 5.30am,
the republican party as we know it is on life support... it is so far to the right that it can't win with women voters (lost 57-43) and can't win with minorities (latinos, blacks and asians)(latinos they lost 75-25) and with minorities becoming the fasting growing electorate they are in huge trouble....
and I think the outside negative campaign money really backfired.....
will this jolt the republicans into co-operating with the president? lets see... it puts them on the back foot.. and now we will see what he tries to get thru |

if you want to look forward to both sides for 2016 a few names to look out for in the next few years....
on the republican side.... Paul Ryan (the VP pick) from Wisconsin, Marco Rubio from Florida, Gov. Chris Christie from new jersey, Gov haley of South Carolina are going to be 3 of the big contenders....
on the democratic side... Hillary Clinton, Current VP Joe Biden, Gov Andrew Cuomo of New York, Gov Deval Patrick of Mass, senator Tim kahne of Virgina
it is going to be fun... come back in 2 yrs.... |

Interesting to note that Romney probably has a more liberal political philosophy than many Republicans, but assumed the Zeitgeist and momentum was with the far right Tea Party..well they got that wrong. As you have rightly pointed out, the demographics are stacking up against them.
What seemed like a run of the mill election might well turn out to be a paradigm shift.

the Republicans are at a big fork in the road as a party..
they are a predominantly 'white' party in probably the most diverse society on the planet..
if they dont change, they are history...
just hope they dont think 'lets fuck the President'..
concensus and compromise is needed to sort stuff out.. |
