Did you see it on the news? A fella has a cat instead of a dog (it wears a coat saying support animal) and Sainsburys wouldn’t let it in!
There was an American woman on that took a peacock that sat on her head to the airport!
Anyway. Man and cat are taking Sainsburys to court!
Yesssss catttttttt or Nah? |

"It is easy to buy a cat emotional support jacket or collar online. How would Sainsbury's know if it was genuine or not ?"
This is my thought too. The guide/support for Illness dogs go through lots of training. What ‘skill’ does the cat have? Can it tell him when the green man is on or bring him his morning paper?
I get he wants comfort but other than that the cat is a bit pointless on the ‘assistance’ front that is the primary point of the dogs and their training I suppose. |

Americans have had rules on support animals for years.
There's photos of someone taking a miniature horse on an internal flight in a 'support animal' high vis rug.
In a way I'm all for it but depending on the animal it would make for a lot of 'clean up on aisle 3' announcements, especially if someone decided they wanted a 'support shire horse' to accompany them to Aldi.......

Not emotional support dogs. They just have to provide support. |

A support animal doesn't actually have to perform tricks in order to offer support to its owner, just being there is enough.
I knew a lady who carried a cushion around in front of her as support because she was petrified that she was going to fall over and hurt herself. Poke fun at that all you like, it was a valid need. |

Emotional support does not require training for pets, you are thinking about PAT/Service dogs. There is a difference as emotional support animals are literally there to support. You can register your pet with ESA Uk, but you do need a Dr's letter
Emotional support animals aren't recognised as assistanc animals are under DEFRA so that limits the travelling, the laws are different for service animals.
Who is to knock the man and his cat if cat is the reason the man will get up in the morning and if the cat gives him the strength and courage to leave the house.
Amazing cat with a very brave owner |

"Support animals don’t always have to be dogs, it’s just that dogs are easier to train & it’s thought that cats can’t be.
Cats can be trained to use the litter tray, that’s not a natural action for them. Cats can be trained to walk on a lead. My own cat has a fantastic recall, I thought all those years my dog had a good recall but no dog has a 100% recall.
So yes cats can be trained it’s just takes a bit more time.
If the cat has been trained they should have a certificate saying so. "
It doesn't need to be trained to be an emotional support animal. |

This reminds me of when I saw a fella in a petrol station with one of those mini monkeys clung to his Tshirt! That definitely was a pleasure to see. I don’t know the origin of why he had it though. |

If the person with the cat, had the cat on a leash - then yes the cat was trained to be able to walk on it, unless the guy had the cat in a carrier?

Do you constantly keep touching it for reassurance ?"

My cat says the same about me..."
So cat stays home and you have to shop alone? |

I'd been talking to Lady Astor for nearly a year before we met.
One day I mentioned I had cats.
Next thing I know Lady Astors invited herself down for the weekend.
So, there I am next day, trying to buy two cats before she arrives......
Cats are awesome, they're a huge comfort. The end.....

Sainsbury's argument was that while support dogs were fine, support cats pose a risk to food contamination.
I haven't read the article but I didn't understand that. |
