So, 8 weeks ago, whilst doing the exact thing I told my son not to do (walk down the stairs staring at his phone) I missed the last step, and the resulting miss-step/lurch with the accompanying snap/crunch etc caused a fair bit of damage. Fractured knee cap, torn cruciate ligaments, torn meniscus.
I get about on crutches, and funnily enough, kneeling on a bed whilst being given a good seeing to doesn't hurt too much (woo!), it's just walking that's the issue, and obviously the more energetic sexy antics I get up to are on hold.
I saw the consultant recently and he said he thinks I might need a new knee as mine is so damaged, I'm having an mri shortly to see to what extent the damage is.
Anyone had a new knee? Been reading horror stories about it never healing and causing long term disability so I'm a bit concerned.

I’ve heard that once the recovery is completed, it is a new lease of life. But the people I know had long term knee issues, so it was planned surgery.

I'm friends with an ODP who specialises in knees and hips.
Where as hips give the most satisfaction after surgery knees are also a new lease of life too.
The most complicated joint to replace. Get it done as early as you can. After covid there's almost a 2 year wait. |

My ex-wife has had two knee replacements on the same line out the first time she never did as she was told and after several years he became loose and infected, ultimately she had to have another one which to my knowledge has been a success and we've been split up 13 years, and she is still doing okay on it , I believe that she did as she was totally told the second time, there is less movement in the joints but this would be expected I guess ,,, good luck with everything |

Is that the same as a replacement? For the first 4 weeks I was in a Brace, but then I saw a different consultant and he said chuck the Brace and burn it, and be 100 % non weight bearing and ice every 20 minutes. This doesn't work as I have a life, a job and I'm too fat to stand on one leg for too long lol.
I'm not wearing the brace now but I use crutches when Im out, but not having the brace means it gives way, painfully, often. Wondering if a rebuild is the same as total replacement? |

My late girlfriend's father had a knee replacement at 81, was up and about carefully within a few days, continued to do everything he was told religiously and was riding his Harley again after 6 months. A bit of an action man. |
