I think it changes other people's perception of the person.

I don't see how it can change the person

Yes.

That's why I'm always wary of giving too much advice on profile improvement threads.

They become a mutant 'frankenstein' version of the owner based not on what they think of themselves but what they believe others want to see, based on comments made.

Is that good or bad if you are going to meet them though?

It doesn't change the person at all. But there's something I speak to on here whose lovely, but their username is probably hindering them a lot. Names do give an impression be it good or bad, right or wrong.

Profiles are the shop window, the goods remain the same.

Many moons ago, I wrote a profile which sold me according to what I thought people wanted me to be.

I had a moderate amount of success.

I did a rewrite and wrote about me.

The amount of meets didn't change but I was blessed to establish meaningful friendships through it.

This time round, I'm starting afresh. My profile isn't far from my old one, I'm still the same me behind it. Only now I'm not pretending to be something I'm not.

Agreed.

A profile should be a reflection of who that person is, not what they think others want to see.

Profile advice seems a strange thing to ask for. It’s like asking an employer how to write your CV to get a job there.

Why are we helping random folks lie to get sex?

So strange how the name can have such an affect, I know that ours isn't to everyone's taste and have thought of changing it numerous times to be honest.

If they have written their profile that isn't them but just to please the crowd, what do you think?

Over the ten years I've been here, it's been very easy to out the fantasists with just a few messages.

No changing a profile does not change the person. It just changes the way others see them. But they are hiding behind a fake version of themselves then and to me that's wrong . .I've seen people who have been told to take out things like some extreme BDSM off their profiles because it offended some and they did and while yes their profile looks better and more appealing to the masses, they still haven't changed how they see potential meets and what they want to do to them .

So surely it's better to know these things before you chat or meet so you can make an informed decision.

I think I would rather know what they are really like before meeting them rather than a fabricated version of themselves, it would save time on a wasted social for a start. Totally get what you are saying about messages though.

There’s helping someone rewrite the same things in a better way, rather than telling them what to remove to hide a more negative aspect of what they’ve put.

Your true personality will never be totally transparent on a profile text, but hints of what that person could be like in real life will poke through.

Yes, I think sometimes people need a bit of help with the marketing, even if they have a great product, so to speak. Not everyone is a good writer.

Likewise there's many that are great with words but fuck me - they could do with some assistance on the 'visual merchandising' front......

Yes.

I don't think there's anything wrong with "you need to finesse what you've got". I don't think that changes the person, or doesn't have to.

Me clearly being one of the something oops someone I meant. There's changing someone's profile so that they become unrecognisable, to one that is more them. I see it as no different to saying why not try this shade of lipstick Vs the one you're wearing

Profiles are bollocks anyway.

I could have 1 for bareback gangbangs, 6 couples profiles, 4 singles profiles, 1 for forums, 1 for cam rooms, 1 for club socials and 1 with elbow cleavage.

I can't see any harm in helping someone express themselves if they struggle.
