Been working on a four foot radio controlled ww2 liberty ship for the last couple of months.
Fitted all the RC equipment this weekend and today as it is my day off I decided to give the ship a full water trial, everything was going great till a load of ducks decided to take off, one of them hit the superstructure side on and tipped the boat over, all I could do was watch helplessly as it turned turtle then dipped stern first and slipped below the water   "

it was right in the middle of the canal, at its widest point by one of the locks so very little chance of recovering it

it won't fit,I have float tested it in a paddling pool to do the ballast tests first, just bad luck, had the strike not been side on it would have probably just broke the masts |

Absolutely gutted for you, OP. If it helps, trial and error is how most feats of engineering were achieved.
Keep trying, keep amending the design and any mitigations against future total loss. You'll make it work, eventually. |

Like a bouy that is attached and either dragged behind or released when sunk, so you can hook that and pull it all in?"

Ah you need to come on a visit to me - we've a model boating lake here where everyone takes their boats to show off.
It's not so deep, so if anything does happen you can just wade into it and fish the boat out (or give one of the kids who sit watching a quid to wade in for you).
I hope version 2 stays afloat longer! |
