Is probably my greatest grounding tool when things get too much.
The premise is that there is no such thing as future at this exact moment as we only have the present we are in. Similarly the past is a collection of 'nows' that have already passed.. by overthinking everything we lose the magic of this very moment.
I've just sat outside listening the the birds and laughing at my daft dogs chase their tails with a cracking cup of coffee in my hand and the intermittent sun on my face.. for 15 minutes this was just perfection
So much time is lost by thinking about things that really don't matter.
Do you stop and enjoy the now?
Try it, you might like it..
I’m off to enjoy mine

I try to live each day as it comes and try not to worry too much about the future but my other half is the complete opposite.
Obviously for some things planning is needed but on the whole I just wing it and it seems to work out. |

Leisure, by William Henry Davies
What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.
No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare. |

I hear this a lot, OP, and it sounds really powerful. I'm quite an 'in the moment' kind of guy, and can enjoy the 'small things' most of the time, but I'm not really able to do this consciously at times of stress. I think I need to practise/train my brain!

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
There's a really lovely book called The Year I Stopped to Notice by Miranda Keeling.
I had one of those moments on the bus a couple of weeks ago:
A little girl, looked about 3 or 4, and probably her grandmother. She sneezed and granny said "Bless you". The little girl asked if you also say bless you for... "It wasn't just a sneeze, I had a windy bum too".
Enjoy the here and now moments.

Lovely thread OP. With the exception of unforgiving financial obligations and considerations, you do have to let life lead you to where it intends and find solace in simplistic moments. Heck, I could be squished in a ghastly steamroller incident tomorrow. That would put dampener on all those things I was thinking about over the next month, or so. |

I see trees so green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you.
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.
I see skies so blue and clouds so white.
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night.
And I think to myself what a wonderful world. |
