Not me Nanna, but is there any where on the High Street where you can drop them off for a bit, go get a cuppa then go back the same day?

That way no need to send away anywhere .. ?

I don't know. I'll try a Google but I doubt it.

I've got online places to think about.

Depending on how many tapes you're talking about, it may well be cheaper for you to buy a VHS to digital converter. The first service I found to do it was Asda Photo, who charge £40.50 per tape (including shipping and the cost of the USB stick).

I think Jessups used to have a VHS to digital service......

Pretty sure I got a video converted a couple of years ago.

Might be worth nipping into your local branch.

I thought about that option but the software is expensive.

I've got somewhere online cheaper than Asda.

I might invest in the software

I just know I'll buy all the equipment and not have a clue what I'm doing.

Think I'll take a chance and hope for the best.

I've got vhs, vhs-C and Hi8 floating around.

The Hi8 I can use the camcorder to play them on to convert, but I don't have a vhs player any more. I'd have to buy one as well as the converter.

In The Surrey Hills

Recently had a vhs tape converted onto a dvd, cost £10 but I suspect the person did it in their own time using company equipment.

Have you tried asking on your local FB community page? The same question comes up here and there’s a few recommendations each time so you may get lucky

You can buy vhs to cd converters on ebay ... you'd be half way there with that. Then possibly burn it from cd to your hard drive maybe flash/usb?

Test it out with a tape you don't need.

Googling Hi8... really need to do it as I've load of old travel vids

The converters aren't expensive. I'll need a vhs player and the software on my pc to capture the video and audio.

I think I'll see what Snappysnaps has to offer tomorrow as it says they do it in store. Depending on the outcome, I might just send one off and see what happens.

I don't think they are allowed to sell electrical items at car boots. I've been looking on ebay for one.

Don't know where I got that idea from then. It would have to be cheap though, in case it didn't work.

Pretty sure Davinci Resolve will cover the software and editing needs- pro level NLE package thats free.

You should be able to get a USB capture card with composite connections quite cheap, then you'd just need a Scart to composite + audio cable (or a scart output block and a 3 way phono cable.

Set up the project as a PAL 720x576 resolution, import the footage, top and tail it to delete the rubbish at the start and end, the export the timeline to a mp4/h.264 file- this will give you a small file size for a high quality stream

Must be a southern thing, I see them all the time round here. Standard price is about £3... but haggling is permitted
