About an *eleven* year old boy that had a finger amputated after an injury he got whilst fleeing racist bullies in school.

Wasn’t sure if I missed the thread about it being all over the news(Genuinely before anyone again alleges I’m digging people out). And so I’m just wondering if anyone else saw this? Genuinely the world makes me want to cry these days. More so since becoming a dad.

Anyway yeah happy Monday

Yes, I've seen this story in a few places.

What was heartening to see was a large amount had been crowdfunded for him, so a lot of people wanted to show they cared.

Yeah I saw this on BBC News. Apparently the school didn't even follow up to see how he was. That poor kid, man... If that was my nephew I'd be out for fucking blood.

Hopefully he gets switched to another school and becomes the cool new kid with the awesome prosthetic finger

I didn’t see it but my wife told me a bit about it. Disgusting that stuff like this still happens.

A child at school hit my son. He’s only 5 and I was close to dropkicking the little shit so I can’t imagine how the parents feel when something this bad happens.

It’s hard because it was such a small boy. Only 11. Like what a trauma and one he’ll be reminded all the time because of the nature of the injury. But the good has been seeing how many people have been supportive.

Schools are doing their best bless them and I know that but we need better from them I feel.

Unless things have changed since our son was at school (15 years) then many are not doing their best Steve

Teachers try to do their best but are undermined by leadership teams who are too quick to remove punishments aimed at violent/abusive pupils when challenged by parents, whose first response is to f and jeff, blame the teachers and accuse them of bullying said pupil who threw the punch/racist remark/disrupted the class as a consequence of not being taught the concept of responsibility at home.

Just following this up after reading about a 14 year old mixed race girl that was strip searched in the same month as child Q. Reading it makes me so angry and so emotional.

Also reading the police’s action plan which is laughable.

Is that 2 girls now that have been strip searched? I read the headline but couldn't read the article.

Child Q was quite a while ago I think? The 15 yo autistic girl was just this week. Definitely two.

Yep two different girls. Both on their periods. This latest story is of an autistic 14 year old and the search happened with male officers present her mum alleges.

Makes you scared for your kids doesn't it, be it racist bullying or for any other nonsensical reason.

It’s unbelievable. It’s being investigated but it does make you wonder about how often they’re not following procedure when searching. I know that some people don’t know their rights for a normal stop and search let alone a strip search.

Someone said that actually and I hadn’t even considered that. But if they can I hope they do!

absolutely. The impact of bullying in the case of Raheem is so horrid and then to have lasting injuries as a reminder. And also to know the school lets these Kids down is so depressing too

I read recently that exclusions for this kind of stuff is more frequent now. Which just hammers home the point that things aren’t getting as much better as we thought

Best we can do is raise ours to be decent humans and hope to whatever deity might be listening that others do.

Hope.
