Cricket not as boring as people think

Hi, we are a couple who love cricket and sex not necessarily in that order… just wondered if any members on Fab, have plans for the cricketing summer this year?…. We will be in Leeds, Birmingham and Manchester for England games this year, how’s that?… T&Tx |

I’ve loved cricket since I was a small boy but much prefer playing to watching unless it’s England vs West Indies. That’s about the only test match I can stomach nowadays. Other than that I’m for the ODIs. |

I love cricket, hoping to attend a Hundred or a 20/20 game at Trent Bridge. After going off Test Matches for a bit, I've recently found my love for them again. Truly the pinnacle of the sport |

"Scorer for my club's 1st XI, play on a Sunday for the 4ths "
I used to play and help with scoring for our third team. Also did a bit of umpiring when I wasn't batting where every LBW decision was either too high or down leg |

That's what umpiring should be, if it's not plumb, it's not out! |

Cricket is great but not so good if you're a Somerset supporter at the moment.
I often go to England games at Edgbaston and stay in a hotel at the gay village down the road. Always good entertainment day and night. |

I’m a massive cricket fan, will be at Edgbaston several times this year and I’m off to Lords for a day at the New Zealand and South Africa tests.
I’m also in the posh seats for T20 finals day which should be good.
Looking forward to sunny weekends sat in the garden listening to TMS, that’s one of my happy places! |

I go to watch Lancashire a lot in all forms of the game and enjoy the Hundred too but it’s still growing on me as a concept. I love test match cricket always have always will. I play a bit at weekends but be here near as much as when I was younger. Can’t beat the sound of leather on willow….actually yes you can ???? |

I love cricket, particularly the shorter forms of the game.
I have been lucky enough to see the Black Caps beat Australia in a T20 game locally and am hoping to get to a Hundred game in the UK when I visit.
I am a massive fan of both the Womens and Mens game.

Big cricket fan here. A couple of mates that play county cricket. Try and get a few county matches and England games in each season. Would love to do an away tour with England too. |

The womens format has come on so much in such a relatively short space of time and there are so many talented players across so many nations
T20 is a format that works but in a cricketing and marketing sense and is fun and engaging for all |

I haven't been to a game in many years but I did in Australia when I lived there. Test matches or one day internationals. They were ace. I once swooned over Imran Khan in the outfield.
I'm more of a tennis fan but cricket isn't boring! |

"I know next to nothing about cricket but I often put it on in the summer as it reminds me of my summer 6 weeks holiday when when I was a kid my dad would watch it."
Cricket is quite simple.
You have two sides...... Ours and theirs, one out in the field, one in. Each man in the side that's in, goes out, and when he's out, he comes back in and the next man goes in until he's out. Then, when they have all been in and are all out, the side that's been in the field goes in and the side that's in goes out and tries to get out those coming in. Sometimes you get men still in and not out. Then when both sides have been in and out, including not-outs, that's the end of the game.
It's really very simple |

I stayed up late last night to watch the first 90 minutes of the Test. The Black Caps were so bad.
I was quite relieved to see the score at the end of day 1 when I woke up this morning.
Am on night shift tonight. Here's hoping I get to watch some of it live. Hopefully it will be worth watching too. |

Well played England and what a clutch innings by Root! Although the captaincy never really affected his batting I can really see him hitting a new level without that pressure. They need a good, settled batting line up to support him though |

I disagree, cricket is easily in the top 5 most boring sports in existence. Unlike many boring sports though, it's no less boring to play... apart for the very small time that you're batting or bowling.

" it was the best atmosphere I've ever experienced, watched the bowled Shane docco yesterday and it made the hair stand up on my neck and arms remembering that test.
we'd already lost the series by the time we got to Melbourne but it didn't dampen our spirits, we sung our hearts out and had some excellent banter with the aussie crowd.
And when the whole stadium were chanting "warneey" I got goosebumps |

Cricket was my game for many years, but never went to many games as was always playing. Do the odd T20 now with the boy, few beers and a burger, always a giggle. Did attend a dinner in the Long Room at Lords once, that was a big thrill, never thought I'd get to set foot in there! |

What an outrageous run chase this has been. At 109/3, it was squeaky bum time.
I’ll temper my excitement, until I’ve seen them against Pakistan, and after a series abroad. |

Well done to England on a quite brilliant run chase. You can see the difference where another day, they would've crumbles but all credit to Root and Bairstow. If England can sort their openers out, then they look a really solid batting unit. |

I'm my experience cricket is boring to watch and it doesn't hold my attention for long. However I'm totally not adverse to sitting out in the sun all day with freinds and cool box of beer. So happy to go for that, just don't expect me to be interested in what's happening on the field.
To be fair although I love playing sports but I've never been too interested watching. I love playing rugby, but I don't follow it or a team and generally only watch some internationals. Sport to me just isn't that interesting unless your actually doing it.

The openers did ok in this innings. Who knows how many Lees would have got if he hadn't been run out over a silly mistake. |

I played regular until my 50s and my knees started giving grief when I was 14/15 I was offered a place for Middlesex youth squad but I was in the process of starting an apprenticeship so declined it and back then even most of the first team players had a job to make ends meet as the money in cricket then was pitiful |

My opinion is fair play, bowlers aren't allowed to gain an advantage by over stepping by a millimetre so why should batsman gain an advantage by leaving there crease early, baseball players don't cry about it when they get out trying to steal ground |

Ah the whole ‘mankad’ debate. Whilst you have these ‘rules’ in sport which aren’t actually rules but are seen as going against the spirit you will get these incidents. Underarm tennis serves also come into this category.
After all how much of sport is now played in the right spirit or is it win at all costs eg. footballers feigning injury to get opposition player sent off.
So India did what they had to do to win.
It’s the people who make the laws that need to take a look at these anomalies. These rules either need to be changed/updated or the protagonists need to stop complaining when they get caught out by them. |

It’s the equivalent of a stumping
As a keeper I’d never warn a batter if they were wandering out of the crease before taking the bails off
And when I was batting I perfected the art of backing up enough so the bat was still behind the line as the ball was released
No complaints about what India did |
