Does packet size lead to obesity

On Holibobs

As a single person if I buy a packet of biscuits generally they come in a 8, now I'm happy to dunk away all 8 but obviously I have to wear the fat increase.

Now I know willpower and all that Jazz comes into it, but if I could buy a packet of 4 I would. But they just don't make them in single people sizes....

Would you want for smaller packet size options in shops

Portion sizes are bullshit.

I ate a 'serves 6' cheesecake fro. Aldi yesterday and didn't need help.from 5 others.

'Share Bag' or 'family size' on a packet of crisps, haribos, chocolates or anything else? Yeah right.

I know people who buy bulk bags and then make individual portion sizes to spread them out.

Then they eat two or three at a time.

A

I eat the share bag all myself, just as an act of civil disobedience, just like Gandhi would have.

Smaller portions would be better but they’d come at an increased price

No..... i'd rather have some chub and be happy, also smaller packet sizes usually cost more for some reason.

I'm like you, they're more like a one person portion

No. Eating the while packet does.

I'd love to have the will power to stop at one or two but I don't so I try not to have them in the house.

Pack size can lead to weight gain, alot of it is due to how cheaper a big bag or mutlipack is compared to a single one

Smaller packet sizes are usually more expensive. Guess just have try restraint, or eat a whole sharing packet in one go and have none left for the rest of the week.

I would love to think that the solution was that simple but for a large number of products, the portion sizes have been steadily decreasing for a number of years but obesity has only gotten worse.

Nope because the size of any product has nothing to do with the gain of weight.... it's more about know what you eat IE ingredients in each individual foods so your able to control intake

I think packages or portions size have very little or almost nothing to do.

I relate it more to other factors like not having a fast metabolism, stress, health condition that can lead to obesity, ingredients that they are in the recipe , lack of exercise, balanced diet , opting for high calories drinks, same as food etc .

I myself i live alone, because i have a fast metabolism, my diet is based in everything they tell you to not touch

Possibly a little for some. Personally I will eat what I want wether it's half or two packets. Also as others said, some portions for one are already ridiculously small, more of an appetiser than a meal

If the cause of a person's obesity is overeating then available portion size will contribute to it along with the easy availability of brown food delivered to your door etc.

Smaller packs wouldn't cost proportionately less unfortunately because a lot of the associated costs would remain the same. If they were available would people buy them?

Also I think that there's a shift away from personal responsibility for people's eating habits.

I'd just eat more portions if they were smaller, you'd have to make impossible for people to buy more than a certain amount by having some type of card system that would only allow so much over a period of time

Best way to avoid things is not to buy them in the frist place trying not to eat the whole packet of biscuits is impossible.

Is it wrong I can eat a 500g packet in almost one sitting?

Nope not at all. I found similar at McDonald's they shrunk the large chips so I have to order two. I'm not fat, if you shrink it people will eat and pay for two.

Lu biscuits come in individually wrapped portions. One type has five in a portion.

"Now I know willpower and all that Jazz comes into it,"

It does not. Packet size is irrelevant too.

Train one's body to eat junk and it will crave ever more junk.

This is another reason we buy ingredients - not processed foods.

It forces us to cook meals from scratch rather than reach for packets and boxes.

It takes more time but we prioritise it and are healthier for it. Also saves money.

If I want something I don't look to see how much each individual item in a pack costs.

I'd buy two packs of four if I knew I would eat more than four.

Larger packs aren't meant for one person, are generally cheaper and are meant for families. They shouldn't be penalised because greedy bastards can't control their eating.

*I am said greedy bastard at times*

I have three packs of biscuits in my cupboard at the moment.

I'll have a couple in the morning to take my Ibuprofen/Naproxen with and occasionally a couple at night with a cup of tea.

I've found if I eat more proper food I don't reach for the sugary stuff.

The Government should realise it's people who are responsible for their weight, not the food available. And Jamie Oliver needs to fuck off and work on not running his restaurants at a profit.

Ask an athlete how many packets of biscuits they eat

And there’s the answer to the question.

Knowing myself, even if they did only come in single person sizes, I'd end up buying 2 of them

They would say 0. And then the OP would say "What the fuck, that wasn't what I initially asked "
