For years I have held back, I am a qualified baker and never felt that the machines recreate what you can do in a proper bakery.
Last night we relented and bought one. I am so sick of shite sliced bread with no taste. We dont have an artisan bakery for miles around, so no decent stuff there.
So in a day or so, the smells of sun dried tomato bread, black olive bread, raisin bread and good old fashioned white bread, will be wafting through the house. Nom Nom Nom
Anyone got a breadmaker or decent recipes for one?

I've got one. I don't use it often as I live alone and don't eat much bread.
But when I do it makes the house smell fabbo!
Also, the fact that my house is cool makes it tricky to prove bread and its great for kneading and proving before baking in the oven.

Thats why I never bought one before. But I cant be arsed to make dough from scratch. In the meantime, I do miss the smell of fresh bread, I have not worked in a bakery for over 10 years and I do miss the smell.
I also miss having flavoured breads, i live on the Moors in Devon and the most fancy thing the local bakeries do is large or small bread

I usually buy those pre mixed flour things with different flavours but the never turn out right....very heavy
Have set myself a challenge of making an 8 braid plaited loaf lol |

I reluctantly brought a bread maker when I moved years ago to the stix lol. No artisan bread maker around me so thought I would make my life easy and do my own bread. Defo made it easier and tastier as I knew what was going in. I've made all kinds of bread in it and found my best bread was sultana and raisin bread mainly used for bread and butter puddings love it |

I have been using a bread machine for years...I started off being quite adventureous, but now mainly stick to 50% wholemeal.
I have just had to buy a new paddle...for the machine! As mine had started to stick.
Today's loaf is almost ready and there is a delicious aroma floating through the house,

Yes, I have one and use it for all manner of breads and even for proving dough before I finish it off by hand (such as with pizza bases).
Its so nice to have bread that doesn't coat the roof of your mouth like the shop-bought stuff tends to do.

Why would a qualified baker need to wait to get a bread making machine to rekindle their love of artisan bread?...further to that why would a qualified baker care if local bakeries only did run of the mill boring breads if they could knock up an artisan loaf themselves at anytime with their own skills?
A bit like me relying on Thorntons to supply me with artisan chocolate...

I have a bread maker, however, not used it for years, as a small sliced loaf will last me a whole week when stored in the fridge.
I love the smell of freshly baked bread though.

I don't make bread as a rule when I'm over here because I don't have the time and there are loads of great bakeries in South Devon, but when I am over in Spain I do knock up a loaf two or three times a week as we have an old bread oven....
I'm not an experienced baker but it takes no time at all. |

There's a fantastic artisan bakery in Ashburton..on the edge of the moor, got to get there early though, they sell out. |

Use mine for making enriched dough for my Chelsea buns, and a fab cinnamon raisin bread, or iced cinnamon buns for coffee mornings, Can't beat waking up to the smell of warm bread |

A bread maker does the whole process for you. If you do it from scratch you need to mix, prove and bake separately.... which I don't have the time for! |

Has anyone got anything they want to add or update?
I've been thinking about this for a while and, possibly prompted by David Cameron, I reckon it's time to take the plunge.
Two loaves a week will do me I guess but it'd be good to have some toys -timer etc to play with. Will it be worth the extra?

I make home made and hand made bread 2 times a week and its so easy .. I make a Easy Bake Bread Recipe with Easy Bake Yeast and my family love it . Takes me 10 mins to make 2 big loafs and 45 mins its doubled in size and I don't knock back I just bake for 30 mins until it sounds hollow .. And I make all sorts of bread with different flour and from this I make pizza and make fruit loafs .. Rolls and plaiting it at times I add all sorts too. I love making it and its come out well each time .. its not hard to make .. xx |

I am also an X baker, I make bread twice a week, living on a farm, people always coming and going, usually make 6 lge loaves, Chelsea buns and 6 coburg loaves, having an aga helps with the proving, and the 3 ovens get used.
I wish I had time to make and sell bread, everyone loves it, with my home churned butter, home made cheese and jams..mmmm |

I bought a Panasonic in the end. Its superb. I use it 2-3 times a week. As well as normal seeded wholesale, favourites are apricot bread, chili bread and onion bread.
Best £120 I have spent on a gadget |

Here's the one I use on the timer setting.
500g (1lbs) strong whole meal bread flour
250g (.5lbs) strong white bread flour
2 tsp salt
25g (1 oz) butter
1 x 7 g sachet yeast
1 tsp sugar
450ml (3/4 pint) warm water
1 tbs mixed seeds (optional)
Either put the ingredients in as recommended by your instruction manual or put in water, sugar, yeast, flour, butter, salt, (seeds) in that order, and bake on wholemeal (1.5lb) setting.
I love the smell of napalm, I mean fresh bread in the morning! |

I hate the fact mine leaves a huge hole or the paddle gets stuck inside so i started mixing and needing the dough by hand, then putting it in the bread maker without the paddle in. Lovely bread....no hole |

We have a bread maker but havnt used it for many years because it only makes a small loaf so we would have to bake twice a day which simply isnt possible

Aga is on all year. I just can get just the right temp for cakes and stuff in fan oven . I love making it .. so easy and doing some today , |

After shopping around for ages, I consider myself very lucky to get a Morphy Richards Icon breadmaker - Best 10 euro I ever spent!!
There was no manual with it - but I got one online - with great recipes and tips to get the best out of it.
I will say that I never add the butter, sugar or milk powder that the recipes call for - after I tried it once and didn't like the 'cakey' consistency it made - and always get a lovely light, soft loaf that keeps for three days usually - if it's lucky to survive that long . |

And remember, you cant freeze homemade bread......not that you would if you can make fresh every day.
But my mate tried and it was a disaster.

This made me laugh I need to put bread in the safe to cool in my house or you turn around and it is gone.
