Google it and it'll come up. Can't say I'm massively surprised to be honest. A lot of people will have offered as a knee jerk reaction without actually thinking how it'd work out in reality. |

^ this really. The *theory* is often, in many walks of life, very different to the *reality*. It’s a shame of course and I hope that those displaced can be found alternative arrangements, but I don’t think I’d allow strangers into my house tbf, whatever the situation (I try to help in other ways - I’m not a total uncaring cu*t, like) |

"Is this really happening...
"
It is as I've seen in a couple of local Facebook groups, one single lady and one family desperately asking for accommodation because because their hosts have said they can't stay anymore. You have to agree to host anyone for at least text anyone for at least 6 months when you sign up but it seems this isn't always happening. |

One said it was because the host said her daughter was too loud! The other didn't I don't think. |

Maybe I’m a pessimist but I’m not sure I can believe all the arguments or reasons
On the north circular, there is a guy with a pretend limp that just puts his trainer on sideways who used to be from Romania. Earlier today he was desperately fleeing Ukrain and needed money for his family.
I can’t help but think that too many dodgy people and scammers are trying to cash in on these poor peoples struggles. Makes it hard for me to believe everything I see/read |

The thing is that these are people, not simply refugees. Just because you've had your home bombed it doesn't make you a nice person a considerate person, a caring person. Most people are tolerable in small doses when you can go back to the peace and quiet of your own home. Very few are bearable to live with.

Aren't the hosts getting paid for housing refugees?"
They get 350 pounds a month as a gift from the government. It does however say when you sign up you do not have to pay for food or any costs at all and can ask for bill money. Local councils do have a fund for this but it up £50 a week for energy bills for one person is just taking the piss. |

In France I think they have managed it better but many towns and villages have empty properties.
The local mayor is responsible for housing the families and they may spend some time with volunteer hosts but only until a house or apartment has been refurbished to be suitable.
Community groups work out of a central resource centre where families can meet, furniture can be donated and clothes and toys can be set up in a shop type manner so families can come shopping and choose for themselves. Similarly the children can choose their own toys and videos. They are all very traumatised and worried about family and friends that are left behind, especially those fighting.
The government has made it possible for local areas to issue residence cards, health cards, sims for mobile phones, debit cards to receive their gov allowance and school places. Near to me is a redundant school that has been renovated by volunteers to house several families and be a community resource centre. They women and children have already planted fruit and vegetables for additional food. |

So you'll only be given refuge if you have money to pay bills?

Not being funny, but isn’t Spain full of entire empty communities, flats, houses, villas etc? How come places like that aren’t ever put to use for the aid of the stricken? |

No, So hosts are given a gift but on but on top of that be Ukrainians guests can get funds from the local council to cover any costs until they can claim benefits or get work. |

Mr"
The most common reasons apparently seem to be the language barrier, And in some cases Ukrainian guests basically seem to be expected to be free domestic staff. This was always going to happen though. |

"I read something the other day about someone being kicked out because they asked them for rent and obviously they had nothing to give them"
Hosts are not actually allowed to ask for housing costs such as rent however they can ask for costs towards bills and food. |

Ridiculous. They should have lodgers if they're only after money. |

It's same though really, it's still money to go towards something no matter what they say it's for |

Yeah I agree, I don't think anyone that's not in a position to help out from own pocket shouldn't offer really. They're going to need anything they've entitled to so they can buy things when they eventually rebuild their homes and need things |

Who’d have thought it ? I did wonder why so many virtue signalling people were up for a Ukrainian refugee but not for a cross channel refugee as they are all holed up in britannias around the country . |

Because the UK has no control over Spanish properties maybe? |

This is really sad.
I think setting up communal residences for them would have been much better (although probably harder to find suitable properties) with a house manager. That way they would have been amongst folk who had been through what they had been through, and had a manager there to arrange/sort out any issues they may have with regard to getting money in etc. It would have been much more supportive to their needs. Maybe?
I think the recent increase in bills probably has folk worried about the extra useage that having someone in their home would bring. Like others have said, the offer was an ill thought out spontaneous decision. Mostly with good intentions, albeit always get twits who abuse these situations. Just very sad it has come to this for those who have been through so much already. |

Don't tell the home office, they'll probably try round them up, box them up and send them to Rwanda by Hermes. And that's the last thing you need after being deeply traumatised, losing everything and away from your home and roots. |

Safer on the street than in a strange house"
Did yours leave you a Dear Tom letter?
Don't take it to heart, I'm sure you're just misunderstood. |

My parents live in a small village in Spain out in the sticks and the village has taken on 2 Ukrainian families. They speak a little English but no Spanish so the small English community in the village are trying to help them out as much as possible. My mum sent chocolates to the children for Easter. |

Funny how Russia invades... Sorry carries out a specual millitary operation against Ukraine, and everyone is handing out aid and help, flooding their country with state of the art weaponry, but no one gave a shit about them sending lead downrange at the folks in Donetsk and Luhansk since 2014. |

You are aware Donetsk and Luhansk kicked the Ukrainian government out, and there's been a low level war with the Ukrainians using units like the A3ov regiment, Donbas battalion and other slightly unbalanced and dodgy units, who have no respect for human rights, general decency or anything else?
You know those ones.
You should see some of A3ovs home movies on their own website and twitter.
Torch lit executions where they crucify and burn a sepratist alive and firing into random buildings and houses on the way out of Donbas spring to mind. |

What's any of this got to do with Ukrainian refugees being kicked out by their hosts? |
