I'm pleased to heard that footballer Jake Daniels has come out he is gay. Hopefully this will set the mark that the masculine culture within it , will be changed, and other people will be comfortable in themselves

Never understood the issue with being gay and football, they spend their time in showers naked with guys, run around in short clothes and hug each other if kick a ball the right direction. Must be their own insecurities making them as a bunch so homophobic. |

Really positive to see someone taking this step. I hope it encourages others who have been considering it, although I think a Premier League player making a similar announcement would have an even bigger impact  |

Idiots shouting abuse from football terraces?
People now adopting this young lad as a champion for their cause?
My hope would be that nobody gives a toss and that he can get on with his career and be judged on his footballing performances rather than being “the gay footballer”.
I come from Dublin, and one of the younger players in the Leinster rugby squad came out a year or two back. And nobody really cared. He didn’t see it as a big deal and neither did anyone else. You’d struggle to find any dither references to his sexuality after that point. |

It's not the players that are homophobic. It's not their teammates that the players are worried about. |

I don’t get why it’s been made such a big deal, him being gay has zero affect on his ability to do his job. Does it not show what a sad situation we’re in when it’s almost being celebrated that someone is gay rather than it just being another footballer.
I think the whole commotion around there ‘not being an openly gay footballer’ has made it harder for players to ‘come out’. Fair play to him for being the first one. I suspect there will be more to follow. |

You only need to read some of the comments to see why it's still such an issue. Heartbreaking.
I am a member of an LGBTQ+ supporters club, I remember seeing something from pride in football a few years ago about how they were supporting 6 gay people working in the premier League who were not open about their sexuality (not specifically players though it was hinted at least a few were). |

Ask the Brighton fans if there’s homophobia in the game currently.
However I doubt the people within the game will give him a hard time. From coaches, managers and fellow players I expect they’ll be supportive. Maybe one or two idiots but you get those ignorant types in any workplace.
I do fear for him from the terraces but hopefully anyone shouting out homophobic abuse will be shamed by their own supporters.
I truly hope his courage will open the floodgates of acceptance in the game and allow other Players to be who they are, straight, gay or bisexual. Blackpool are now my second club and I hope they do well. But most of all I hope Jake goes on and has a great career. |

It's a sad (but not inaccurate) state of the world where we use the adjective brave.
Herea hoping all of us who think it's a big deal are shown to be wrong, and not one more peep is heard about this.
