"My Dom and I are looking to try some wax play. We have bought the proper play candles etc but does anyone have any hints and tips or dos and donts. "
Don’t hold the candle too close when it’s dripping, or it will burn like fuck, you’re only supposed to feel the heat for a few seconds before it cools, but different colours have different temperatures, so the higher the temp the higher he holds the candle, & don’t drip it on to any thin skinned area. Wait til it’s completely cooled before scrapping it off with the back of a blunt knife…. That can feel nice too |

You're better off using proper BDSM candles rather than regukar candles - the wax is different and has a lower melting point. Also, as a general rule of thumb, the darker the wax the higher the melting point. Starting off with a black candle from your local goth shop is an excellebt way to end your play session in A&E. |

Tips:
Health and safety
Use proper candles that have a lower melting point or you risk severe burns
Have a damp/wet cloth to hand
Have burn cream to hand
Don’t keep lit candles near flammable objects
When dripping the wax you can extinguish the flame, or leave it lit to have a constant drip, but be aware of any flammable objects
Vary the height to vary the temperature
Some areas are more sensitive than others
Watch out for getting wax in your hair, its a fucker to get out
Watch out for getting it in your eyes and ears
Clean up
Remember to use a drop sheet that is water proof or wax can seep through and ruin bedding or carpets. We have used shower curtains, painters drop sheets and tarps
When removing the wax from your body, use a credit card or plastic store card. As you get better you can use knives (sharp and blunt) or floggers (urgh messy) but be wary of scratches.
After you have got most of the wax off you, use a baby wipe on your skin to get some of the bits off before you shower and clog the drain
You can use clingfilm on your skin and pour the wax on that to get a similar feeling bit easy clean up, just watch out for lit flames and cling film

When it comes to play, you can do drips or try and make a picture. If you want to use a pen/eye liner etc to sketch out the design then go for it.
It can be fun to start with a design, but also just to do random shit.
Nipples, breasts and genitals are fun to drop wax onto, but don’t neglect other areas, lower back, under arm, wrists, hands etc.
If you struggle with the “fear” element then try just dripping wax onto your own wrist/thigh so you can see it.

I'm by no means an expert but...
- Put a blanket or something down to control mess.
- Whoever's pouring, try it on yourself first to gauge distance and heat.
- Start dripping from higher up and lower as the other person let's you know it's okay.
- Be aware that sensitive areas are going to feel the heat more.

Oh ours are all free hand. But you can use things to sketch out an outline if you find that easier. |

If you're wanting to do really pretty art...
Wax chips (soy or parafin) in clean tin cans, in a bain-marie style sitch in a slowcooker so you can then apply by pouring but also with brushes.
If you're doing that, or your dropping and you want to use darker colours (which tend to have a higher melting point) a large white/clear wax base helps dissipate the heat from higher burning temperatures (if you've lightly oiled the skin first it can also help you keep your artwork intact, which can serve for some pretty funny boudoir art) |

Only you would end up with wax coated balls, as the wax doesn’t magically remove the hairs.
But Reeet doooo |
