Does yours come regularly? Mine comes every Sunday evening but he's late tonight so I'm sitting waiting, watching out the window.
What do you get? I usually get a Mr whippy with raspberry sauce but I feel like I need a treat tonight so I'm going to go crazy and get a sundae. |

I live round the corner from the park so I can always walk over there if I really want one. We do occasionally get one come down the street but he's so fast no idea how you'd catch him . For me it's a 99 with sherbet, raspberry sauce and a flake. So good! |

He had them! "
Next time he’s there, can you grab me a couple. I’ll be pathetically grateful. ![](/icons/s/2/cute.gif) |

Not seen one except whet at the beach.
Do they still do rounds like they used to in the 80s? I thought they’d died out along with milk floats and paper rounds! |

"We have one comes nearly every day, all year round. I'm not convinced it sells ice cream "
Years ago there was an 'ice cream war' in Glasgow between the criminal gangs that controlled the best spots. |

I think this one mainly sells dodgy cigs and other "herbal" substances to the local youths ![](/icons/s/eek.gif) |

Bit of a misnomer. No ice cream sold, it was all about drugs and illicit tobacco. Quite nasty. People got killed ![](/icons/s/eek.gif) |

It's a shame they're not also selling ice cream. Could be quite profitable when they've got the munchies ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

"I was driving out of my estate and the ice cream man was driving in, for fucks sake
Snooze, you lose ( I'll have a magnum if you're at the shops, ta) xx"
If I didn't love ice cream so much I would hunt him down and set him and his 'out of tune musical van' on fire
I might have a freezy pop from last year you can have if you can dig it out |

Can't think of a more soul destroying job than being an itinerant ice cream seller rather than having a guaranteed pitch somewhere.
Time and again they play a few bars of their miserable tune and then move on with no takers.
Can't see them lasting much longer with high diesel prices and lower disposable income among the customer base. |

Mine is really busy! I live on a street of ice cream munchers. I was watching for him tonight with my shoes on but even though I shot out the door as soon as I heard him, I was the third family in the queue. |

"Usually comes everyday, don't think ice cream vans will exist much longer. Far cheaper to buy at the supermarkets a pack"
It's just NOT the same, even if it's exactly the same ice cream as sold in the supermarket. No child wants to accept a cheap choc ice from ASDA ![](/icons/s/eek.gif) |

There's still some brilliant local ice cream companies too, Minghellas on South Coast, Rossis from Southend. Family businesses. |

My Grandparents wouldn't buy anything other than Brucianni's ice cream. It's an ice cream company based out of Morecambe, where they were from (weird I now have to write in past tense...) |

Was a an ice-cream man for years, albeit over 30 years ago now,and the profit margin was all in the soft 'Mr Whippy' style from machine..I think abox of actual mix was about £10 then, after adding water and vending (definite knack as well to correctly doing a cone) it was mega bucks profit |

Oddly, an ice-cream van jingled it's way down my street today despite the fact it was pissing down with rain. I'm not sure how anyone would have got six feet away following purchase before a soggy cone would be all that was left.
I've actually started to wonder if the van is a front for something else as he only seems to turn up in "none-ice cream friendly" weather!

I got one that hangs around outside the school next door on Thursday and Friday from 2pm onwards. He also comes about 5 or 6 at the weekend. And rarely a different one pops around.
I don't like ice cream much now though so I just have to fend off the kids
