I have just been cleaning the fridge and threw out several condiment jars as had been there for ages. There were 2 tartare sauce ones hiding at the back, each half empty a d a few others including 3 types of mustard and a jar of mayonnaise. What a waste, must do better. Do you waste stuff like that? |

It depends how old they are, I tend to view best before dates as guidelines, and use by as a more definitive date, but even then most things tend to be ok if they pass the sniff / mould test. |

If you buy jars like that, you can scoop the rest into ice cube trays and freeze, they will keep longer and you will have more space in your fridge for even more jars |

thanks. Can you freeze tartare sause. Is one I love most and waste most but did not think you could freeze or can you? |

I don't really have condiments in jars I have the free sachets that way if not used not cost me anything only apple sauce but it for Christmas after that it goes in the bin anyway. |

My fridge is very small, but I've just chucked out a fish sauce, brown sauce and Pesto . I do usually use the sniff/mould test too. These are sauces I don't regularly use, the pesto WAS mouldy, the brown sauce all separated and icky looking and, well, I'm not going to mess with fish of any kind when it's years out of date

Actually that's a good idea, never thought of buying sachets for home but just looked for tartare sachets and do them. I only hope they taste like the jar stuff and not funny |

No we don't. We try not to waste anything at all.
My mum was a devil for wasting condiments though. She'd go to a garden centre or charity sale and buy "artisan" chutney or home made jam and it would stay in the cupboard for years. |

If you make it yourself, you can leave out the mayo until you want to use some then just mix the Mayo in then. Just googled it |
