Over the past few weeks I've seen a massive increase in deer killed by the roadside, more than I've ever seen before.
Is this due to a larger population or mankind encroaching on the wild animal habits? |

Is your underground bunker anywhere near a place where they normally cull but haven't recently?
Otherwise without any actual knowledge, I'd lay money on them becoming increasingly marginalised due to human activity playing a large part |

Not sure which way you'd look at it but there's far too many deer around. I love seeing them but once one runs across a road the rest of the herd will follow and there's nothing that's going to stop them including a Ford Mondeo! |

We know that from bitter experience. |

I'm pretty sure they breed faster than we are building housing at present.
The fact that most species are also introduced isn't so good either.
The biggest problem is lack of predators in the UK (because, obviously, we killed them all). We need wolves and beers back to keep the deer numbers down. |

"We seen 2 large deer on the same stretch of road a couple of weeks back .If only we were like the Americans who pick up and eat road kill ..
"
On my list is to take up taxidermy. Going to get a freezer for my car so I can collect examples on my journeys.

I think it's due to the time of year hotter weather brings them down to lower land to feed ect. Bringing more dangerous situations for them. Roads at night being the main one. I may be wrong but it makes sense in my head |

Think your head is upside down. I'm pretty sure it's the colder weather that brings them down because the ground isn't frozen and covered in snow. |

Colder weather brings them to open ground as its not frozen or snowy?? That don't make sense.
As I said I may be wrong. But I thought they went to the trees in winter as during this time they tend to live off twigs and leaves. Spring brings new food so head to open ground to feed. |

Only know that in winter they come down from the hills to the lower ground near the A9 hence the road deaths increase. |

It's a bit of both
I live near Cannock chase and deer numbers are on the rise however the amount of new builds skirting around the chase has increased hence traffic has increased
Also increased traffic has occured since the pandemic as more people go up there after discovering it when they couldnt do much else
More traffic leads to more accidents
It's will only get worse when the common wealth games kick in |

Mild winters means there are less deaths and so more will survive into the following year. Dried rivers, ponds and stream will mean water sources are a bit more scare.
More organic farming means less poisoning, that's good for wild life, but when the population grows, there's more pressure for food, breeding rights and territory. |

One of the lessons you learn around here is that if any animal runs out into the road always aim to go behind it if you can - they are much more likely to sprint forward if startled/scared than turn around.
I can also say from personal experience that hitting a baby monk jack at 60 mph that has run into the road will write off a car. It also won’t leave much, if anything, of the monk jack. |
