Have you ever had something to say to someone, either good or bad, but for one reason or another you could never say it?

If so have you ever tried writing them a letter to say it all and hopefully get it out of your head but know you will never send the letter?

Yep, found it very cathartic in doing so too.

Every thought and feeling and then bag it up and leave it be. Some I destroyed and a couple I still have hidden, I will never speak to those people again, nor will send the letters. It definitely helped.

i have.

i get the idea, and while others find it useful, it didn't help me whatsoever.

I’ve been doing it since my early 20s, always worked for me.

Whether it’s a post it note to an annoying boss / colleague or longer essays to family / friends, it gets those thoughts out of my head rather than out my mouth, although some have had both barrels when needed.

It clears my head of the negativity and ready for the next day. Thankfully I’ve not had to write one for over two years now.

I don't write them as letters as such but I do write things down that I can't or won't say. I find it cathartic.

No, I hate writing. I much prefer to let it fester in my head

Manchester (she/her)

Yes. It's very useful.

When my feelings are particularly strong, fire is particularly cleansing.

Not personally but my Mum has told me when she was diagnosed with cancer she wrote me a letter - thankfully she’s fully in remission now so that letter has never seen the light of day and I have no idea what it said (but I can guess!)

I saw someone say that about burning them afterwards on another site

This is the first time I have properly tried it, normally just have conversations going round and round in my head.

Longer than I thought it would be

I do this ALL the time at work, especially when someone’s really p!ssed me off! I will draft the reply, save it and reconsider the appropriate response (usually the following day when I’ve calmed down)

I’ve also written a letter to my dad years after he died and kept it for a long while before burning it - very very cathartic!

That's who mine is to though he is still here

The only other one is one I hope is never needed or read.
