So, last time I checked (3 months ago) I was just under 12 stone - trim but a tiny bitof a tummy.
Yesterday, no tummy, 11 stone 1 and legs rippling, tummy is ok, top end is ok.
My BMI is smack bang in the middle of the scale but I'm on a high - love it!!!!
It's all good... |

Don't understand why medical professionals still use BMI. It is bull and an unreliable indicator of good health. Many athletic types who are muscular come out with high readings but that does not make them obese.
And besides, are we all really so dim as to not know when we are unhealthy and need to drop a little weight? We do have eyes and mirrors!! |

Mine is healthy 5"1, weigh 8.4 and my waist is small! Size 8 clothes!
But I am very active anyway so that helps keeps me trim! Just need to give up smoking again, Luke has given up and doing well so I need to start thinking about it |

Taken as a general indicator of health, it's not a bad measure, but there are always exceptions to the rule (generally those with larger muscle mass)
As with a lot of things in life, I don't read too much into it |

I loathe the BMI rating system. It was invested in the 1850 by a bloody Belgian mathematician and makes no distinction between lean mass and adipose tissue. Even the medial profession recognise its shortcomings.
But the thing which gets me is that BMI is now the go-to standard when you see many GP's. You walk through the door and (despite whatever is wrong with you) they just a yet another top-ender on the BMI scale and you're immediately judged on that fact alone. |

I hate BMI! I've recently started a training programme and I've lost 5 kg but 12% body fat so I'd lost just over 30lb of fat weight but the scales only showed r about 10 lb loss... Obviously I've gained muscle but BMI can't account for that!

BMI can give misleading results. The better indicator to use is waist to height ratio. A 0.5 ratio is good and a ratio greater than 0.6 and your in the danger zone. Therefore If someone is 5' 10" tall which equates to 70 inches, then a 35 inch waist is a 0.5 ratio. A waist size greater than 42 inches is a ratio greater than 0.6 and you need to loose weight urgently.
Remember the waist measurement is about 1 inch above the navel. |
