Do you think prevalence of porn has made sex better, or worse?

Has it meant you’ve learnt new tricks, new kinks etc and enhanced your sex life, or has it led to unrealistic expectations about what you should do during sex and put pressure on you to do things you would prefer not to just to meet new sex norms?

Or, indeed, anything else??

I’m interested in your views Fabsters!

I only watch lesbian or bdsm porn.

But I have seen lots while working in a swinger's club for 10 year's.

It's much better seeing thing's in the flesh and then thinking fuck yes I want to do that!!

got to be honest, the thought of ever pulling out as I was about to cum to squirt it all all over someone’s face never crossed my mind until porn.. now it seems mainstream

This is true, but c'mon, you must have seen elements in sexual encounters that are a bit porn-ish? I think sex has been influenced massively because of it

I guess those who are sexually active are still very active ! But there has been a significant rise in numbers who are sexually inactive, completely or infrequently.

More of my 2p worth .. it seems these days that ‘rougher’ sex seems more commonplace / expected, possibly more degrading sex. I won’t lie, I fear particularly the younger generation might think sex should always be hard, fast and rough, there’s very little sensual sex in porn is there?

.

I saw a programme called mums do porn - they were fed up of mainstream porn and what their children may watch and think was ‘normal’

- rough sex, deepthroating, anal, quite a lot of it degrading to women.

(The mums didn’t star in it) but they made porn that was more real and didn’t just focus on it ending once the man had come, it actually focused on womens pleasure too and making sure she had come.

I do think younger people will watch some porn and think it’s the norm, how they should have sex

I think the increasing prevalence of porn goes some way to explaining why it seems to be more of a struggle for some to actually connect with a real person to do the sex with

It's caused many people to see sex as an act with an end goal, as opposed to an experience with another person.

Mind you even porn has lost its thrill. Its everywhere...not like the good old days when you found a grotty magazine laying on a grass verge

I guess it comes down to what you take away from it.

I enjoy watching porn now, but when I was young and first started watching porn I definitely felt the pressure as I very vanilla back then. I remember boys in school too, wanting to have sex in all these crazy positions because porn put ideas in their head and anyone who didn't fit that pornstar standard when it came to sex wasn't good enough.

I do lean towards it being more negative, especially for those who are younger. I do think porn creates unrealistic expectations.

But I quickly learnt that sex in real life wasn't what it was in porn, and you've just got to hope many more people make that connection too.

I think now porn is probably better than ever, you see much more variety, different types of bodies, videos focusing on a woman being pleasured, women friendly videos etc. But I do think there's a whole other side that's harmful, addiction, racism, violence etc. But again, this comes down to what you take away from it... in the wrong hands it isn't healthy.

I saw that programme. Hope they repeat it.

I agree that many people- not just younger- seem to think they need to act like porn stars.

"You women like X and Y" like we are all the same.

Multiple orgasms, fucking and licking for hours.

Graphic verifications have the same effect.

Yes, i have definitely felt that i 'should' be doing x, y and z, because porn made it seem like thats what everyone was doing, or that thats what guys really liked. I am so glad that im not a teenager now, with the pressures they must feel from what porn has normalised. I think, like others have said, people need to understand that porn is not a reflection of real sex, it is pure entertainment, made by actors. X

Before anyone gets offended this is a joke. The only porn I’d seen before my first time was a magazine found in a bush with the pages stuck together.

I think it lends itself to unrealistic expectations. Fantasy v reality already appears to be an issue these days, so throw porn into the mix and there is a perfect storm.

I’m not a porn star, nor do I expect a porn star between the sheets. Keep it real

I think it’s been terrible in general. And don’t think it’s good for A LOT of reasons.

Personally I don’t think my expectations or understanding of sex was particularly impacted by porn because I’ve always been aware of how fake and exaggerated it is. But I suppose I learned that missionary isn’t the only position by watching porn so that’s good

Personally I learned from others or just making it up , nothing from porn. Like most things I think it’s probably very damaging for some , & safe entertaining and fun for others.

Guys will have an expectation on women already from a very young pre-porn age through society l, media and advertising , women and girls are massively sexualised everywhere . Porn will reinforce it because they choose to watch that kind of porn

Squirting is a porn induced phenomenon.

I believe the art of fingering has declined because people think curling your fingers up to bash at the bladder is better than a gentle stroke of the gspot, or clitoris.

Screaming, puking, gaping, gagging blow jobs weren't the norm back in my day.

As we spend more time looking at screens we lose the ability to connect to people in reality.

will there be some unrealistic standards set maybe but most people should gorw out of that with time. Potn is exagerated for entertainment like most media, it can also help you find new intrests to. baiscaly just cause there is porn of it doesn't mean i will enjoy it or want to try it.

A slightly controversial idea but I actually think it's a good one. I'd be comfortable with my children watching porn like this. I wouldn't necessarily object to them watching the more extreme stuff in the mainstream but it's important to have context of what is more typical.

As for the original question, as I'm probably younger than the average Fab member I would say porn has influenced my sex life. It never once occurred to me when I was young that giving blowjobs, doing anal, and being cummed all over was anything but normal. I've also never thought that sex outdoors or being filmed having sex where anything that usual either. I wouldn't have minded a career as a pornstar. I've also been comfortable with things like deepthroat, face fucking, and rough sex since a pretty young age too. Being bisexual is also expected for young women nowerdays I feel (which is fine with me).

After reading threads like this and talking to friends and family a generation older than me it is obvious my generation is fair more liberal and adventurous on average. I expect porn is a strong influencer for this. Xx
