Whether losing weight, just keeping fit, training for an event/competition or sport.

How did it go?

Good, bad, indifferent, it's all

work in the bank.

5 weeks into my strength block and big increase in weight and intensity, very much broken this week, looking forward to a weekend off.

It's been pretty good, I've hit a bit of a plateau recently so swapping out some exercises in my routine to change it up a bit. Been doing the same plan for a few months now so probably a good idea now to swap out the ones I'm not progressing and try to improve that way

Weirdly I haven’t thought I was making any progress, until I looked in the mirror and started to see some shapes I’ve never had before. I’ve got a week of a strength block left before I jump to a 4week block of power.

Week four back in I think. Feeling pretty good, creatine loading seems to have had the desired effect, and I'm really enjoying the tight pump feeling again

Started a different training split. Very excited, but its hurting my dodgy hip.

Also krav and yoga.

All in all a good week.

Creatine is something I’ve never really delved into. Would you recommend it’s use?

Yes, it's the most studied of all the gym supplements, safe and it works.

Disappointing.

Couldn't get in anywhere near as much as I had hoped, and I had set myself a target to go at least 4 times a week.

Something always comes up which means I either can't go or end up trying to take phone calls whilst there.

I started going in at 6am before I can get distracted by other stuff. It’s worked wonders for my consistency of attendance.

I would if I could! It looks lovely and quiet at night and in the early morning.

Unfortunately, I'm a full-time Parent Carer and the only time I can go is if/when they go to school.

I can't leave him unattended at any point to go out, so end up doing whatever work outs I can at home.

Its great, my tip would be to dissolve it in warm water - I use tea. It's a bit more palatable, although it doesn't taste nasty.

Yep, it's a chemical that already exists in the muscle so taking it essentially adds to those stores to keep you going. I take it with pre-workout before going to the gym

Why such short blocks out of interest?

Do you just do 4 weeks or run a 4 week mesocycle then another 4 weeks?

My problem has always been consistency over a longer period, so found it works for me to shorten them, and not get bored of doing it.

Hit a decent pb on deads a few weeks back, squats are coming along nicely, and although I haven’t touched bench press since November I managed to hit 120x10 on Wednesday

I’ve ordered new running shoes and I’m gonna give running another go. I went from struggling to run a mile up running a half marathon in under 2 hours in about 6 months during the first lockdown.

I’d like to see if I can get there again while maintaining my current strength levels

Fair enough. I get you on the boring bit though. 12 weeks of the same does get boring but it's a process and it works so I just crack on.

4 Sessions in the pool this week.

I would normally do 45 minutes each day on the exercise bike. But waiting on delivery of a new one.

So next week 5 sessions in the pool. With exercise bike 6 days at 45 minutes.

Had the exercise bike coming up for a month. One of the IFIT ones. With a bundled year subscription.

Swimming three times a week and around 35hrs on the bike last month dropped about 8lbs. Some days I’ve been watching what I eat and others I have not. Still a good bit to go yet with regards to my weight loss plan but I’ll just stick to making continued little wins against my planned goal. A bit of a marathon rather than a sprint to get their.

Stopped going to the gym so and last week I only managed to squeeze in 2x BJJ classes and 1x kickboxing.

Back on KBs, mobility and running this week though so it should be fun.

KB work is generally relatively simple. It’s either 300-500 KB swings or a combination of exercises finished with an AMRAP or EMOM.

My mobility is terrible so I have to find some bits to do and that will be my primary focus for the next 7 months

Now I have my attendance consistent, and my new program is set for the next 3 months, I need to get my nutritional habits and content working for me. I’ve been slipping a bit of late, and feeling a bit sluggish because of it.

It was good. Last week of a 4-week strength block and new 5RM PB for the deadlift, with more definitely in the tank. Oly stuff was good and Snatch is feeling smooth.

Bit sluggish today with higher volume pull accessories, but got through it, so can't complain...

It's been pretty good. I've been experimenting with rest times as I've just been resting for a minute regardless of whether it's a 5, 10 or 15 rep set. I've been upping it to 3 minutes of strength exercises, 2 minutes for hypertrophy exercises and a minute for the endurance exercises. Not sure howuch it helps with gains but I definitely feel more rested going into my sets.

Longer rest periods have been proven to be beneficial for hypertrophy and strength. Rest until you are ready to go again, excessively short rests will hinder strength and muscle gain.

Its almost the opposite for me. Over the past decades I've spent a lot of time in gyms doing strength work. A few years ago I took up endurance sports, triathlon, yes a lady was involved so I've actually cut down on the gym and done more swim, bike and run...I hate running.

My first full iron distance race on Sunday, the Lakesman at Keswick. (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run).

That's bloody impressive, I started running again in 2018, got up to marathon distance but the thrice canceled Manchester event saw me run it solo with friends and family helping out.

Entered again for last Oct and pinged my calf a week out, went for this year's event and got covid, absolute stinker, now back getting up to half marathon distance, expect to be there in a couple of weeks.

Iron Man is a dream, though I do wonder if at 55 the old chassis can take it ??

This has actually helped quite a lot, my gym sessions are now a bit longer but I definitely feel like I'm getting more out of it through taking better rest periods depending on the exercise

I'm 61, though I do have the advantage of being a natural mesomorph. I'll never be as fast as the typical anorexomorph runner, but equally I'm less prone to breaking down in the latter parts of the race.

I used to swim at school and I've done some cycling in the past, but I've never really run much until I started triathlon, short powerful legs, good for judo, crap for running for me, ironman is a day out, I'm aiming to complete, a long time after the winners.

I didn’t have the best start to the week, I’ve strained a muscle in the hip flexor area whilst doing a bodyweight split squat of all things. Not a weight plate or bar in sight and I do injury.

Luckily I can adapt and overcome, I can still cycle too….so I’m still getting the sessions in, just a bit more gingerly than usual.

Go very well , member of DL gyms .

Run most days , swim most days , I’ve learnt that doing floor work is important so spend a good 30 mins stretching, also started doing Palates classes found this extremely valuable.. Also having a Sauna , using steam room helpful in recovery .

As for weights haven’t touched a free weight or machine in over 5 years ..

I think I will. It’s swollen and sore at the moment, but I’m still able to do flexion movements, and be careful extending.
