24TH MAY!!! IT'S FINALLY HAPPENINGGGG ![](/icons/rainbow.png)
Yes, I have been waiting for this moment for years and yes, I fully realise how sad that makes me sound. No, I do not care ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

Although I probably have no right to comment as a non Londoner, it would have been nice if they'd made step free access all the way onto the train, which was the original plan. Step free to the platform a) relies on lifts not being broken and b) still requires a disabled person to solicit help to actually board the train.
I type this from an area with zero step free train stations though. Maybe scraps is better than nothing?! |

"I thought it was already open ? "
I think some of the line’s above ground routes are open but I think the Elizabeth line branding will start on this opening date and subject to changing trains you would be able to use most of joy all of the line. Still no train that runs the entire length of the line from Sheffield to Reading just yet though. That’s slated for next year.
I’m not a Londoner either but it looks like it will be good upgrade, although it’s regrettable that there wasn’t all-the-way-through step free access. The cost though is exorbitant, so I hope they reconsider Crossrail 2

Oh I'm sorry, I hadn't even considered this! I agree that this would have been a great opportunity to improve accessibility onto the trains themselves. Would that require re-levelling all the platforms? |

"Some of the architecture in the stations is fantastic "
Yes my closest one has been redone and it looks incredible! I think it's going to do wonders for the area. |

Given that central government has funded a large part of the project I think you have every right to comment as a non Londoner. |

Will definitely be an improvement and get to some places a lot quicker.
As for complete step free access from train to street at all stations, yes that would have been good. However, it is just not possible within the centre, the lines are too deep and the infrastructure above them just doesn’t allow for it.
Hades - I never knew it was going from Sheffield to Reading ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |
