Morning all, I've a slight obsession with houseplants, house like a jungle. Any other green fingered fabbers on here? What's your favourite houseplant?
Looking for ideas for some new trailing plants. |

"I love plants, but plants don't particularly love me....I try.
As for trailer plants Spiderplants are nice"
Trial and error. I used to have 3 house plants and coukd barely keep them alive, let alone get them to thrive, I've likely git around 200 in my small home now... just under half of those in my lounge. I've got a few spider plants on the go, once they have "pups" ill be separating and multiplying |

"I've very green fingers
Cultivating Geraniums this year, there are some nice colours I want to propagate over the next few months "
The garden is starting to get going again, I moved it all around again last year when I built my summerhouse/greenhouse... needs time to settle in again but, always happy when my hands are in the dirt. Do you just take cuttings and get them to root? |

"Got quite a collection, as the lady said spider plant's are good trailing plant's, work great in bathrooms, have loads of babies that you can pot on and give away to people. "
Give away? Crazy talk... there's always space for more. I've started fixing driftwood to the Ceilings and hang them from there, officially ran out of floor/shelf space |

Yes they are relatively easy, mine are undercover so the plants don't get wet, and the flowers last longer, I water at the base from a collection source |

I love plants but my home is so draughty they don't last long.
I have a lovely frondy asparagus sprengeri plant that has started to trail down. It's not strictly a trailing plant I don't think, it just grows very bushy and the weight of the growth tends to drag it down. |

Why don't you do a pot of cat grass for them.. It might mean they leave your other plants alone? |

Getting at least 30 babies at the time on the plant, wouldn't want them, same with the cacti, I buy pots and compost, repot them and take them to the animal charity shop and they sell them to their customers. |

That's actually quite a nice idea. Hadn't realised they produced as many offspring if I'm honest |

I have no room left. I've even moved furniture and added shelves to accommodate them all and some of them are huge.
I can't have any more yet the aloe keeps having babies, the variegated geraniums need propagating and I finally found a grape ivy (popular in the 80's, rarely seen now).
I resuce them and end up keeping them and squee with joy everytime I see a new leaf and fret every time I'm away from the house for a few days. They are the first thing I check on when I come home and I talk to them frequently.
It's utterly joyous! |

I have a string of hearts plant that sits on top the fridge freezer which trails to the floor. Just propigated that so have a small one in the bedroom. I have an ivy on top of the kitchen cupboard which when long enough is going to trail across the ceiling.
And a whole shelf of succulents and cacti. First valentine's present I bought M was a cactus because he's a prick |

Apparently so. I've not tried it though as I'm really not that good with plants. Watering them is about my level. |

I have a growing population of snake plants. Started with one and as it had the cutest babies, I couldn’t bear not to repot them.
I have cacti, spiders and a range of succulents too.
Aside from my spider, I don’t know much about trailing plants. Sounds like an issue that is accompanied by macrame. |

Plants can be propagated in several ways, including from cuttings. Division is ready good for many plants, including outdoor herbaceous perennials, typically done at the start of the year, where it can invigorate them. Growing from seed is often easy and some plants readily produce many.
Often with cuttings, the time of year is important - some are better at specific times of year, when they are in a specific growth state, such as semi-ripe. It's better to check for each species. Try to take several, and there's no better way than to try in different ways/times, learning as you go. |

I always have a few vines around all the books and a few citrus plants around. They keep all the crawly stuff away, things like spiders will just naff off without me having to put them outside |

Yes... My favourite is tradescantia, they grow so quick! I like the Tri colour, so pretty with its green and pink leaves. Also the nanouk and purple heart, stunning.
I love anything variagated, got a lovely golden pothos that's just started trailing.
Really think I need a monstera to complete my collection though. |

I have dozens in the two back rooms , a while back Lidl had 4-5 feet high plants for 9.99 so I bought 6 plus I have loads of smaller yuccas, dragon trees, orchids, 3 bonsai and probably 100 -150 Aloe Vera that I farm here for the gel.
Also two huge indoor lemon plants and then basil, coriander and parsley that I use to cook
My string of nickels trailing plant is done as little forgot to water it when I was last away , I’m
gutted it was it a huge Buddha Head to retain moisture but high on a shelf dangling and she missed it.
Bonsai are all struggling too, I won’t get any more |

I've quite a few of those too, they're lovely. Got about 10 cuttings propagating just now but, I'm sure I read somewhere you can just bung the cuttings straight in the soil and they'll root?
I've got maybe 6 monstera, getting a rooted cutting of a variegated one form a customer of mine... for free. Booyah |

I have a few plants, a spider plant, a triple flowered kalanchoe, and 4 sunflowers, 2 are doing great, 2 not so great. The kalanchoe was full of flowers when I got it, but has only had one flower since, the spider plant is doing well, I also have an Orchid, and an Easter cactus. I have a lovely Polish lady who comes and cleans for me (disabled lady) who tells me I have “fingers of green” lol. I think what I grow it pot luck as to weather they thrive or not. Haven’t killed anything yet though. |

"Best houseplant you can have is a plastic one lol (SPATHIPHYLLUM) is the best house plant easy to look after beautiful flowers and cleans the toxins out of the air "
There's a common myth about house plants and air purification, often based on some decades old lab based research, that's not indicative of the real world conditions in a home. There'd typically be no room for anything other than plants in a home, for them to be able to make a small difference. What they can do has been hyped, usually by those wanting to sell us something.
They certainly give us the psychological benefits of their beauty and having living organisms around us though. |

I just counted and I've only got 12 in my front room, mostly spider plants of different varieties.
Most are on my kitchen window sill as that gets the best light. |
