A negative society

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

If you look through the forums or even Facebook and Instagram etc I’ve noticed that there is always someone looking to make a negative view point, whether it’s about the subject or people commenting about it. Has society in general turned us into negative thinking people or is it the world we live in?

I note the irony or some people having a negative view on this post but that’s the debate.

I think people have always been this way, now they just have a platform to tell everyone about it.

There have always been, and always will be, people that often take a negative view of things. The same as there are people that are often optimistic. Personally, I'm firmly in the glass half full camp, and will always look for the positive. I'll openly admit that I have no patience with negative people...you do you, but please do it away from me and don't try to drag me down into your pit of misery. I'm quite sure they don't like my positivity either, but we can be adults and agree to disagree. The world would be rather dull if we were all the same

cahoots

I think in normal life (not online) people will be mixing with people they know so a healthy debate is possible or if a new acquaintance then the liklihood of a full blown argument is unlikely at that point.

The problem with online is that it gives the platform for people to shout at each other and enforce their entrenched views and then the raging begins.

Life's too short for rage...disagree for good reason by all means but negativity for the sake of it is just damaging.

Physiologically it is easier for the mind to be negative than it is positive. Positivity requires action

I have seen it rise more and more with the likes of Facebook and other social media, obviousLy people will have a negative view to someone positive but I feel there are people out there that want to watch the world burn.

There is a little element of truth that people can be negative and I would go as far to say often aggressive in their behaviour. Much more entitled than ever, rather rude and less caring about others. Having said that and as someone else said, it all gets exaggerated in certain situations and becomes more apparent but that's not just on here. This is just a microcosm of the real world. You learn to avoid conflict and enjoy whatever it is that keeps you here including some good bunter, lots of good info and some sound advise about cake, sandwich fillings and dinner suggestions

Bad news sells, being positive is likely to get less reaction than being negative so in our narcissists mind that's self affirming

Does anyone think that the access to information gives a sharp rise in negativity, so people may have access to information but it may be wrong or inaccurate and they take that as gospel and conflict with people who have the correct information.

People often have opposing viewpoints, the assumption is then often made that if there’s something you like and feel positive about, that someone disagrees with, that they have a negative attitude, but that doesn’t always necessarily follow, it’s just one that isn’t the same as yours.

Yep, wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment. Someone beautifully put it the other day - we have a rather childish attitude that thinks if we dislike someone/a viewpoint/an attitude it's automatically bad or negative (not saying it can't be here). Rather than not being aligned with our own. You see it on here frequently which is a shame.

I've always been very positive and seen the best in people but in more recent times I've become cynical because of how I see some people using others.

I don't take things at face value anymore and especially not on here.

It's sad that my first reaction now is to look for an ulterior motive but what is even more sad is that more often than not those ulterior motives exist.

On a mooch

There always has been and always will be those that like to moan about anything & everything.

Before SM you only heard those you came into contact with in person, now you hear the world doing it.

Swipe by and ignore

This has always been the case but now they have access to people all around the world that fuel their narrative. Hate attracts hate, misery loves company and social media is one of the most toxic things we have that's why I don't have any.
