Do you think that social media does more harm than good.
Pros: Sociable , learn things
Not cons but everyone appears to be an expert in things when actually a lot of the time people are an expert in their own opinion. I value people's POV/opinions but on certain social media people seem to become experts in a chosen field, all giving different advice. Of course take what you will with a pinch of salt. |

I think it's incredibly destructive.
Yes, connectivity can be awesome but, I do think, if I'm brutally honest with myself, that on the whole it's really abusive.
Far too often it's a constant influx of being told or listening subliminally to "you're a failure"
Whether that's a plethora of people showing their "best" bits or successes, or advertising trying to convince you to purchase their goods because you're life is "less than" without it.
Then you've those who do show the shit, they're just being real and they get shot down for it. Accused of being a drama lama or unstable. In some cases they will be serious cries for help but most of the time it's simply life in all its warty glory.
It's dangerous, especially if relied upon for acceptance or inner peace.

Yes it can be dangerous, false, utterly misleading. You need your eyes wide open and brain in gear. Just like life and people themselves, there can be good, there can be bad.... |

Double edged sword for sure! X for some things it’s great but for others, it’s the worst
Like when you don’t love yourself, and you aren’t in a good place. And you see everyone doing so well. It’s bad
Also it’s bad at how easy it is to connect with strangers, in good and bad! X |

I lost a couple of friends due to tribalism. And I think that the polarisation we face right now is a result of it.
Personally mine was "if you don't hate everybody to the right of Corbyn lose my number" and on here just yesterday I saw team vaxx versus team no vaxx. Which is funny because I truly thought the UK was team "let me get on with my life".
However, like many of our advancements we can't let the people misusing it ruin it for the rest of us |

If you're strong and have decent self esteem then it's ok. However if you're unable to delete it when people start to abuse you it's a very bad thing. Some of the things I've read about recently are horrible and vulnerable people who like to please are the victims.
The anonymity is the problem it's poison pen letters taken to a whole new level |

It should probably be called 'antisocial media" instead.
The idea is good but the reality is different.
Personally I feel every users profile needs to be ID verified and anonymous, fake named ones banned. Of course some people will say that limits freedom of expression and there should be the ability to remain confidential. But there's a lot more abuse, trolling and victimisation going on simply because people can hide behind fake identities with no consequences. Get banned? Just start a new profile and start being an arsehole again immediately.

The theory behind it is a grwat idea, the practice is of course a wee bit different. Much like other mediums, such as telly, the inherent danger of misuse is prevalent;many people, children and adults seem to view social media feed as gospel now. Very dangerous in that aspect. |
