I'm finding the more books i read on my kindle I'm having to tap words to bring up the dictionary! I've heard the words but never had a use for some or haven't known what they've actually meant!

I'm not ashamed to say I looked up .. Altruism, placate, obsequious,

Anyone else learning new words or likes to look up in the dictionary?

I sometimes check just to make sure my understanding of the word or phrase is still correct. Theres nothing worse than using a word incorrectly

I love it when people assume you mean something that you didn’t just because in their minds it fits better.

It explains much about their personality.

I am saddened but not surprised. Altruism is not a popular concept in capitalist ideology.

Part of the joy of reading is the opportunity to expand your vocabulary (if you have a mind to). I do it all the time, the only problem is remembering the stuff once you've put the book down.

Capitalism isn't an ideology. The term was created by Marx out of distaste for the standard human state of affairs. I don't know if altruism is really a good thing while I think I wouldn't go as extreme as Ayn Rand against the concept I think it's dangerous to be that way. A little bit of selfishness is important.

To the contrary.

I often google words to find meanings.

Apologies.

I was just musing.

I don't think altruism precludes self interest?

But it is with vampire bats.

"A pair of researchers, one with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and the other the University of Maryland, has found evidence that suggests vampire bats regurgitate blood into the mouths of others in order to compel others to do the same for them when they need it. In their paper published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B, Gerald Carter and Gerald Wilkinson describe their study involving caged vampire bats, videotaping and the ways that vampire bats share their food"

Challenge accepted, I've been looking for this front page for ages.

Unless, it's Monday 6th January 2003 in the offices of The Daily Mirror, then you can!

"I SHELL not EXXON erate Saddam Hussein from blame. I will MOBIL ise our troops and JET s to Q8 and the Persian GULF. I will BP repared for TOTAL war. The message is AMOCO ming to kick your ass, Saddam."

"Now can you guess why George W Bush is hell bent on a war against Iraq?"
