People of fab, got an interesting animal fact? Share it here! I’ll start:
1. Australian koala population is currently dwindling due to 90% of them having chlamydia
2. A polar bears liver has a fatal dose (for humans) of Vitamin A
3. Penguins wings are designed so that they are about to accelerate rapidly in water, then can turn much faster then other swimmers and they can go ~45 knots an hour! |

"A giraffe has more bones in its neck than in an entire human body.
Also monkeys can get away with throwing poo about, people....not so much "
Despite its elongated form, the neck of a giraffe is made up of just seven large bones |

The vagus nerve leaves the brain goes down the neck, loops around the aorta and back up into the brain. This is an evolutionary throwback from a common ancestor of all current mammals |

"Flamingos are actually white they get their colour from their diet.
It'd the male seahorse that gets pregnant.
Dolphins sleep with one eye open."
Also when dolphins are sleeping, they rest half their brain at a time |

Sorry to be 'that' person. But the male seahorse doesn't get pregnant, they just incubate the eggs then give 'birth' to live young. |

Squirrels have a valve at the base of their tale that they can open and close to keep warm or keep cool.
Female Blue tits can have up to 16 eggs laid over 2 weeks...the first egg laid won't start to develop until she has laid the last one. |

Male giraffes drink female giraffes urine to gauge the ideal mating time.
Reindeer eyeballs turn blue in winter to help them see at lower light levels. (They're golden-colored in summer.) No other mammals are known to have this ability.
Some turtles can breathe out of their butts.

Dromedary camels have an organ in their throat called a Dulla. It is a large inflatable sac & the male camels expand it when they are aroused and let it hang out their mouth.
I learnt this after arguing with my daughter it was a tongue. Then I had a good laugh at some of the Google image search results |

"Cats pass on a germ (can’t remember what kind) that causes humans to be more prone to sexual deviance.
Thank you, cats. "
Toxoplasma gondii I think is the one you’re referring to

Despite being smaller than both Lions and Tigers, as the 3rd largest big cat in the world, jaguars have the strongest bite force of any big cat, and that's pure bite force, or based upon relative size.
Compared to most species of crocodiles, especially salt water crocodiles, Alligators are rather docile and friendly by comparison - do not mistake for actual friendliness! |

It was once thought that the Komodo Dragon’s mouth was so full of nasty bacteria that it’s prey died of blood poisoning. But, recent research has shown that the Komodo Dragon actually has venom which seeps into bite sites from the base of its teeth, which stops the blood clotting, decreases blood pressure, and send the prey into shock, rendering it too weak to fight back.
Also, Komodo’s can eat up to 80% of their body weight in a single sitting… but like me when someone puts a cheese board in front of me. |

Polar Bears are the only mammal that ACTIVELY hunt humans as food.
Don't confuse other predators such as tigers and lions etc... who all OPPORTUNISTICALLY occasionally kill and eat humans. None of them actively do it, except the polar bear. |

Sharks give birth to a single pup, in actual fact the mother is pregnant with up to twelve young but the surviving pup has only survived because it has cannibalized it's siblings whilst in its mother's womb, only the most vicious survive |

The Bobbitt worm is named after John Wayne Bobbitt, who got his cock cut off by his wife. He’s actually in porn films now; they reattached it.
If you want nightmares, search for images of the Bobbitt worm. |

Termites fart more times per day than any other animal, closely followed by cattle, sheep & dogs. Particularly Labradors & other retrievers. |

Dogs do it because of the absolute shit processed food we give them. Dogs not fed on it fart considerably less.
On that note, rats and mice are unable to fart or burp. |
