I lived with a medium and could tell a few stories but this is one that sticks in my mind
Near me theres a place called harlow woods its on the A60 from Nottingham to Mansfield. Theres been lots of stories and sightings,but..........
One night a taxi driver was coming from Nottingham when he was flagged down by a woman. She opened the back door and got in. The taxi driver asked where to,the woman said Mansfield please. When the taxi driver got into Mansfield he turned to ask where in Mansfield she wanted......... Only to find the back seat empty |

Not a ghost story as such, but weird nonetheless.
About 25 years ago a mate of mine had to have the local Vicar come round to carry out an exorcism in his house, thanks to his little 4yr old girl's 'invisible friend' called "Whitey".
His house stood on the site of a WW2 RAF fighter station. It was built on in the late 50's.
From the time she could talk, his little girl kept talking about 'Whitey' who sat with her on her bed when she went to sleep and who played with her in her room. My mate and his wife just used to dismiss it and thought 'She'll grow out of it'.
Around the time she turned 4, they went to a display in the local library of photos of the airfield from about 1930 to when it closed in the mid 50's. His little girl disappeared round the back of one of the display boards and they thought she was just sitting there until they heard her scream out.
They went running around the back of the display to find her staring at one of the photos - a group of RAF pilots standing in front of a Spitfire, all in various degrees of uniform.
They asked her what the matter was and she pointed straight at the photo and just said..... "Whitey....."
She was pointing at a young pilot, aged about 21, wearing a large white scarf around his flying jacket. My mate looked at the note under the photo and read along the names to find...... "P/O White" against the person in the photo.....
Their little girl told them that was the man who had been her 'invisible friend' for the past two years. My mate did a bit of research and found out that Pilot Officer White had died, not of wounds in battle, but of some more natural cause in the sick bay of the station - and the sick bay had been located roughly where his house now stood.......
His now-ex wife was really shook up by it and insisted he contacted the Vicar. When he told the Vicar the story, he was amazed when the Vicar was not at all surprised and went on to tell him he, and his predecessors, had carried out a number of exorcisms on the estate over the 25+ years since the houses were built!!!
After the exorcism, Whitey never returned and, the last time I saw him, my mates daughter hadn't mentioned him again and no memory of him.....
Okay, cue Twilight Zone intro... Doo dee doo doo, doo dee doo doo..... you know the rest.....

"If it wernt a ghost..... What was it??
You said he played with her on the bed..... I would think "
Wasn't quite the kind of 'playing' I had in mind..... !!! Lol!
Easy to confuse though - specially on here!

Theres a pub in Huthwaite called the peacock,over the road theres a row of terraced houses. In one lived this family and strange things were happening so to in the peacock..... My ex and various other people went to investigate..... Apparently behind the peacock there was a benidictine monks monastry. Theres a secret passage going from the peacock under the road to these terraced houses. One of the monks was a kiddie fidler and he did is nasty deeds in the house that had wierd things happening in it. They say when the other monks found out,they bricked him up in a room. Therefore buried alive......
My exs brother and her son went to the house and helped the tormented soul into the light......
Since that day the families not seen or heard from the ghost/poltaguise again |

Lately everytime I go outside in the morning to get in my car, I get this icey cold air hitting me and I start to shiver. Also it's always creepy and dark now and it wasn't always this way. I also think my trees are all dieing as all their leaves are withering and falling off.
I have such a feeling of foreboding it's really fucking freaking me out! I think my drive is haunted. |

Our family home has a poltergeist - we call her Ethel as she only manifested in the late 70's when we replaced some old leaded windows, one of which had the name Ethel etched on it..she's never been nasty, only mischeivous, hiding things for a while, that sorta thing. We also can hear her moving round upstairs twice a day at the same time.
We had some paranormal researcchers round years ago and they reckoned she was a maid who fell down the stairs and was killed in the early 1900's (house was built 1882)
My mam has recently moved into a flat and we've been clearing the house - we've found a nailed trap door in the glory hole (that's what we call the under stairs cupboard, not the other type of glory hole you perves!) and at some point before we sell the house we're gonna crowbar it open see if anything's in the cellar as we've always known there to be a cellar, but the entrance on the wall was bricked in many years before we moved there - we're hoping for treasure, but prepared for rubble and spiders |

When I was about 10 years old, I was ill and my mum put me to bed in her bed, my dad worked nights and to keep me warm placed a fan heater on a chair, which normally had her dressing gown on. She came up later and removed the fire. Leaving the chair empty.
When she came up to bed I asked her if my Grandad had gone. She said Grandad X hadn't been. I said 'no not him Grandad Walter'.
No Grandad Walter died when I was 2 and I only remember him from pictures.
She asked me how he was dressed and I described his work clothes which he was never photographed in. I then said, he told me about Tiddles the cat how she would bring in live mice and stand in from of Grandma and paw her to attract her attention. My Mum thought she had me as she couldn't remember this cat. And the matter was forgotten. Some time later she mentioned this cat to her older sister, who said my Mum wouldn't remember the cat as they had her before my mum was born.
That chair was never left empty again, the siginificance of the cair, it was the one my Grandad used |

My dad used to terrify me with this when I was a kid and I've made my niece jump tonight when I told her it...
In a dark, dark wood there was a dark, dark house;
And in the dark, dark house there was a dark, dark room;
And in the dark, dark room there was a dark, dark cupboard;
And in the dark, dark cupboard there was a dark, dark shelf;
And on the dark, dark shelf there was a dark, dark box; And in the dark, dark box there was a....GHOST! |
