"None.
It would take the magic away and possibly ruin the originals.
"
That's just what I was thinking Artful
Some things are better just left alone.
How can you possibly remake programmes that are so intrinsically linked to their era and their stars ?
They would, IMHO, be poor substitutes for the original.
Plus there is so much on Youtube these days - if I want my Leonard Rossiter fix or Hylda Baker fix, I can have it in an instant as I can one of my favourite sketches of all time of Harold Steptoe dressed up as a woman |

How can anyone want Father Ted to be remade?????? It was sheer perfection the first time round. Anything which tried to emulate it would be a poor imitation as far as I am concerned...
"Dougal, now let's go through this again... These cows are small.... but those.. are far away... Did you get that Dougal?"
"Er....... No Ted."
Priceless..... and timeless

"... I woke up this morning thinking about Hill Street Blues. I reckon that could easily be remade. "
Superb show!
I recorded every episode; still have them all packed away in boxes at home.
But what about the other shows from the same makers, "St Elsewhere", and who could forget "NYPD Blue"? |

" let's not forget Faulty Towers lol... "
John Cleese said at the time of writing Fawlty Towers that he couldn't think of any more ideas to keep the series going!
We, in the hotel business, wrote into our Trade Press to offer ideas which would have kept him writing enugh episodes for decades! |

Interesting that, Iain. That's how Dad's Army kept going so long. After it started, loads of ex-Home Guard members sent in reminiscences of their days in it to Jimmy Perry and David Croft. Kept that going for 8-9 years...

"I guess what I mean is reintroduce the programmes with new scripts etc, rather than a direct remake of old episodes"
Ahh, OK then.
How about the wire then.

I feel that if it's a classic then it should never be remade at all - Reggie Perrin for example, a good effort but the original was perfection so what was the point? - better to remake something that was almost good but missed somewhat. How about the late 70's Quatermass serial? |

"The Sweeney
The Professionals
6 Million Dollar Man"
In today's world:
The Sweeney wouldn't look very tough standing in the smoking shelter writing out their risk assessments.
The Professionals would be called snobs and never get laid. And be misspelled.
And the 6 Million Dollar Man would have to be limited to $53.40 due to austerity measures. |
