We watched the original Star Wars over the weekend, it still stands the test of time. Empire Strikes Back was great.
I think Lucas ruined the legacy by releasing the last 3 films, they were more cartoons than fims. Also glad he has now sold up so he will stop tinkering with the originals |

Completely agree, like many great films people just don't know when to stop which then results in them being ruined"
Too much money in the merchandising. Have you seen the price of Star Wars Lego? |

I think my sister would section me if I bought the Death Star for the boys. The Millennium Falcon takes up enough room. |

Lucas has pretty much pissed off the entire fan base anyway with the last three Star Wars fails, Indian Jones and Kingdom of Destroying my Childhood Icon plus 'Red Tails' - which was just abysmal.
His indifference to the fan base in his constant re-visioning of the original trilogy, adding scenes that didn't need to be there, digitally replacing actors - he shows such contempt for his own work.
Hopefully Disney will drop Brad Bird or Genndy Tartakovsky onto Episodes 7,8,9 and let them run with stories set in the expanded Star Wars universe.
That would make for some fine films! |

By rewriting the lyrics to one of their songs... "When you wish upon a (death) star" maybe.....?

Wow I did not see this coming! Could be a good thing cos I've always said he should have let someone else direct the last three (that were released).
All depends who they get to write and direct. |

I get the feeling the Disney versions will be a cross between Glee and The Wizards Of Waverly Place. If the cast someone like Selina Gomez or Debbie Tomato in it I'm gonna hunt them down and impale them on a lightsaber! |

I don't like the way they tinkered with the originals. I queued to see the original on its release day, only film I've ever queued for.
Have original figures, bought for the kids of course, Millenium Falcon, ATAT etc but not boxed and very "played with" condition.
Oh and if you hadn't guessed, this is Mr speaking! |

I think Disney will do a good job of them. They recently bought out Marvel and have done a great job with that franchise. I'd be more worries if Lucas had done them ..... and yes another SW geek here too |

I queued in 1977 as well. I was the kid in front of you. I was the first kid in school to see it and was a hero for a day. |

I'm a huge star wars geek, spent my 21st at a star wars exhibition and I've been to star wars celebration Hehe.
George Lucas wanted to wait for technology to catch up with his vision for the last 3 but I think he got rather carried away! I will watch the new ones and take with a pinch of salt but who knows. I would hope it'd follow the books and introduce Mara Jade etc |

I agree. Disney has a lot more input into films than we think. Or did nobody enjoy Pirates of the Caribbean?
The Disney Corporation didn't get as large as it is by not knowing its customers. |

I think they will be great. Lots of films these days have input from Disney. It's long way now from just being kids movies. Pirates of the Caribbean for instance are fantastic.
Oh and I still have some original star wars toys lol. It wasn't just for boys.

In June 77 I went to Canada for the first time. On telly were adverts for a new science-fiction movie which all my cousins over there were raving about and wanted to take me to watch.
"What do I want to go and see some stupid space film for?" I said.... twat that I was.......
Could have seen it three months before anyone in this country... Ah well...

Biggest mistake Lucas made was making the prequels, rather than going onto episodes 7 to 9 (while the original actors may have been willing to reprise their original roles) - the books following immediately after episode 6 (with Mara Jade in) could've been great while the franchise held it's credibility...
Another who saw it as a kid in early 1978...
