We just advertised a bed on gumtree.

First reply was from Cumbria!

Seemed odd but basically they pretend to be interested then they send you a link to get your bank details.

Reported and we’ve now sold to a real person.

Sounds like an undercover job to me. How much were you asking for? Fifty sheets?

I’ve ‘uncovered’ similar scams, man with divan etc …..

Not quite the same but about 4/5 years ago somebody stuck a fake advert on gumtree for collectable figurines, offered them free to first person that could collect them.

They added my phone number

More 500 calls and text messages per day for a week before it calmed down to around 50-100 per day.

Gumtree wouldn't remove the add

This happened to me years ago with two separate listings, didn't think it was still a thing

Scams go around.

I must have been one of the first to be contacted by guys doing a boiler room scam.

Saw through it though.

Same with marketplace...only sell locally and if you can see their profile. Cash only and at door either pickup or drop off in person.
