TRT

It’s becoming increasingly common for men, certainly older men to have testosterone replacement treatment yet it’s not often talked about in the same way as HRT.

The main positive effects of TRT are:

Muscle gain

Lowered body fat levels

Improved energy levels

Improved sex drive

Though none of these are a given.

The negative side effects are many. Including:

Acne and oily skin

Lower sperm count, which can cause infertility

Increased risk of blood clots

Shrinkage of the testicles

Larger breasts

Increased risk of heart attack and stroke

Has anyone taken or is on TRT?

Do the benefits outweigh the risks?

If done properly with a doctor then I’d say yes

In the UK it’s being offered more which is great, but we are still in short supply of doctors that give good dosage prescriptions

I’ve seen people being told to take just 100mg or so every 2 weeks of an enanthate ester. That’s not nearly frequent enough and will cause problems

No wonder so many guys go the route of buying their own from UGLs

I'm super interested in this as a concept. What's been the primary driving factor for you guys to look in to this?

I do agree and self dosing of any medication found on the internet is never a great idea

I think age is a major factor. Life of such that we all want to feel younger as we get older. 50 is no age now unlike previous generations

I am on TRT it has changed my life.

Luckily had a very sympathetic Doctor who was interested in the field. (Female Doc)

It has improved my life immensely. Well-being was very noticeable.

That’s awesome. I’m guessing you had a medical reason?

Other than natural ageing and feeling lethargic not really. Just a great Doc.

Did you have to go private to find them or NHS?

Did you get lucky? Or did you have to search around until you found one that cared?

I never even knew it was a thing, OP. Kind of like the male menopause, it's rarely mentioned.

Thanks for opening this subject up.

Literally my own GP who I had been registered with for years. I did research it before hand. So it pays to ask. I pay the normal prescription for the gel.

Not only that, loads have a weird fear of it

Tried to get my dad on it and he refused to even see a doctor or research or anything. Just no

It’s a doctor prescribed medicine which could change your life over night. I’ve no idea why so many are against it

I have no idea either. Pride I guess that men might need help with something the body should be producing

This is something that has been of interest to me since having boys....

I know boys can go through hormonal changes at various points in life and at puberty especially so. Just because they don't have a monthly bleed does not mean that there are not just as much happening inside their bodies.

Makes sense that a Man could plateau with hormones at the same (ish) stages of life as a Woman does at menopause.

Interesting OP, I hope you find a sympathetic Dr. It's my belief that there is not as much research out there, but there should be

It’s not something I need right now but I’m seeing it talked about a lot more. Unfortunately it’s open to abuse from the bodybuilding community as muscle gain and body fat loss are benefits

We've usually found female doctors, or younger doctors in general more interested in helping with problems that are "less traditional".

Once had a doctor say "so what if your infertile, at least there's no responsibility!!"

But back on topic, this sort of thing needs to be made more of a priority. Things like this can lead to depression and anxiety and having lived through that if someone said here's a gel thst can help your difficulties, I'd take it in a shot!

OP I’ve known many people who have taken testosterone without DRs orders. Most have not turned out well. Go see a DR with any questions and they will provide the best treatment that is guaranteed safe.

Mens test levels drop significantly post 35 on . Test can be the reason your mood and focus amongst other things can be affected. It is a factory in many issues. Drive and sexual health Etc . Guys who get it black market tend to abuse it . You only need to start or need low level Etc . But Always get your levels tested to see what’s required. Along with a decent diet . Easier said than done but food for thought

Dubai & Nottingham

I get my bloods done privately every 3 months by Spire not just hormones but all kinds of things then my consultant reviews the results with me and prescribes specific doses of vitamin, mineral , trace elements , omega 3s and follow up tests like Q3 risk calculations. He identified slightly low white cell count and neutrophils after COVID , but he fixed it with injections of anti inflammatory drugs.

My T & free T is okay for 50 , it’s sometimes a little low if I’m not sleeping well but in range still and I can get it higher naturally with deep sleep and lots of sex ! but he will give it me if I want, you pay you get what you ask for

I’ll not hesitate to take it but not until I need it

Yes never self medicate from the internet or mates. It will only lead to more complications

The range is so wide though 6.6. - 25.7 , unless you were doing bloods before 35 you won’t know what’s low for you.

This is the flaw with NHS men’s health , they prescribe based on that criteria only not symptoms, private doctors will treat the symptoms and let you decide the treatment option best for you

He’s just doing his job tbh. You have to manage your own health as you age and it costs if you want to stay healthy and fit but a price worth paying

Had a conversation about this, I was told I’m within parameters for my age but I’ve found my concentration has dipped, I’m very tired, my sexual urges have dipped compared to previously. My doctor says just get on with it.

Unfortunately this is the attitude of many. Your getting old so just deal with it etc. It’s this that can drive it underground and black market

Imagine being a 6.7 and getting told to deal with it

It’s a joke
