The price of fish, chips, oil, flour and peas has gone up a lot and fish and chip shops are putting prices up. Some are closing and customers are struggling to pay for the traditional Friday night treat. Is this the end of a great British tradition? As Tom would say, it was in the news |

"Just done chippy tea here at Soze Manor.
£22 for 3 of us.
BUT! The portions are massive, so there’s leftovers to use tomorrow. Makes it a bargain. "
Leftover chippy chips?
Unless you find a way to keep their texture? |

A decent chip supper is £16 here. However it is a good portion so split between the two of us, add two slices of bread or a bap and it fills us up. It is a treat though and not a weekly occurrence. |

That is from a proper chippy. You can get cheaper £12-14 but it’s from a kebab / burger place which isn’t proper fish & chips

There's a lovely chippy that's half in Market Deeping, not to be confused with the other one that keeps boasting about it's awards.
Anybody that can serve fish cakes, that tastes of fish and then serve mackerel, knows how and deserves to take my money. |

There is one down on the coast and it is in the harbour. They do about 7 different types of fish ranging from £5.50ish to neay £10 for monkfish. Then Yiu have to add the cost of the chips on. It is bloody good though. |

It's not a cheap meal these days. There's a lovely one in Burntisland but it'll set you back a tenner fir a fish supper |

I am not sure you could ever replicate the taste though. And what would you charge for a meal for one, £1.37 or £1.38 |

"Depends where I order from... £5-10 for a kids meal which are nornally a decent size and £9-13 for a regularish adult meal which tbh normally isn't that much larger than a kids meal."
That does sound d a bit steep at the upper end, especially for the kids meals but I suppose it also depends on the area. |

And nearly every piece of cod you eat comes from miles away. We used to be able to catch cod off the beach in the UK but they have all gone (the sea is too warm these days) so either the boats have to burn loads of fuel to get to the fish or they have to be transported by air/ truck. Either way very expensive! |

Same town, just prices from four different shops, two are fairly cheap, the others not so, why it baffles me |

Have to b from a chippy as they use wet fish and batter it themselves! Wouldn't think any cafes/pubs do certainly not the chains! And proper chips theve made themselves from potatoes not frozen or chilled ones! Used to work in a couple of chippys! Took left overs home x |

Often when times get harder and disposal cash is less it's the better businesses that survive. Supply cost are what they are. There always money somewhere for truly decent products, not so much for the mediocre, overpriced and/or overhyped. Chip shops are just the same. Those chip shops that are legend and always have a queue a mile long out the front on a Friday night have nothing to fear. |

I don't eat many takeaways but they're around the same price as McDonalds, KFC and Burger King.. each are around £7-9 especially if going large, and in all honesty I've never had a good one apart from the start of the pandemic when they bothered about hygiene and customers. Now it's back to usual service of burgers that have been thrown around the kitchen for 1/2hr.
When you find a decent chip shop you are pretty well guaranteed a standard from week to week. Round here it's about £7ish and should have a rosette. |

I can certainly make nicer burgers than the commercial ones but I can never make any fish and chips as good as that from a great fish and chips shop. Around here it's still about £7 but it's a nice one. I don't have it often but when I do I like a jumbo one with a tea cake to go with it of course |
