I really wanted to join the RAF as a air traffic controller but my lifestyle was definitely not compatible with the forces back then
Failing that I wanted go into childcare but careers advisor said no one would employ men (as I was then) so I was stuck between two things I really wanted , neither of which I could do because of who I was.
I need up going from factory job to factory job with no real direction until I found my current role almost by chance |

I always planned to join the RAF, but I was put off after being bullied out of the Air Training Corps. I'm too old now and with a "history of depression" they wouldn't have me anyway. |

Oh bless you, I was in the Cadets too. So sorry you had a bad time in there. I had a great time until I aged out as a CWO. Nothing they could do when I was a youth cadet, but no way they would have had me as an adult instructor/officer |

Yes well, it was one particular arsehole who loved the power. Needless to say, that particular arsehole is now a copper. |

"Crikey that takes me back! One came to our school and I said I wanted to maybe go into catering as I didn't know what else to say
Mine gave me a personality test.
I think I broke it "

We didn't have an advisor. We did get asked to fill in a bunch of questions on a computer and it spat out a list of suggested occupations. Vet came out top for me. That was what I wanted to do anyway. It did also list "grave digger" for anyone who said they would enjoy working outdoors, which we all found pretty amusing at the time. |

I said I wanted to work for the RSPCA - they told me I had no chance & to consider joining the army (great help!)
I'd love to meet that chap now & tell them who I work for & what career I'm in (& who I have worked for!) |

I had what sounds like similar questions, but done by hand with a career officer to interpret it.
The career officer didn't like my answers much |

"What did u want to be?? "
Apparently scoring the winning goal for Arsenal in a cup final was not a “career option”… the bastards
Seriously though… all I look at is what I needed to do to get to university…. My career officers almost laughed at that as much as the “scoring the winning goal for Arsenal in the cup final” option
Anyway.. got there… 2 double degree later… god why do we not have a “2 fingers” emoji |

The Careers Officer at the school I attended had no qualifications for this position and no interest whatsoever in carrying out this function.
He was utterly useless, and had a reputation that preceded him; I went through the motions in his office and made up a BS career I had absolutely no interest in pursuing.
I just went and did my own thing, and was successful.
Education nowadays is more refined, and vastly more professional; because the environment is competitive
Life has been an education and the Careers Officer played no part in it; none

Mine was another power tripper. He told me I'd never get a job because I wasn't applying myself to find out what I was going to do. Told him I already had a job as a game warden at a safari park. He told me to stop making things up, so I showed him my job acceptance letter for when I turned 16, he hated that, took all his power away |
