There as actually been a few
My grandfather telling me I had turned into a gentleman anyone would be proud to call a friend.
My first wife saying I was a great father
My nephew telling me I was amazing
And best of all my daughter telling me I was smartish person she knew  |

Years ago was on a shuttle bus at Naples airport, a couple got on and the lady was in distress. They had stopped to ask directions and the ladies handbag was stolen, with passports, phones, money and jewllery in. They were left with nothing and were planning to get a taxi home from the airport.
After talking with them, I gave them my mobile and we managed to cancel their credit cards. Also gave them £40 o they could get home.
I was told I was a fool and would never see the money.
Two days later a letter arrived with a cheque for £60. They said that they didn't know if they had been in the same posiition that they would have done the same and that after the experieince I had restored their faith in humanity. |

I have had students tell me that without my input they would not have had the courage to do what they ended up doing...and my children have told me on several occasions that they would not have achieved what they achieved without me. Those were pivotal moments. |

My eldest daughter just after she gave birth to her own daughter sent a letter to me and in it she said, that she hoped she would be as good a mum as I had been, and that her daughter would be as proud of her as she is of me...how lovely ???. I cried my eyes out [ Trix ]  |

I have had students tell me that without my input they would not have had the courage to do what they ended up doing...and my children have told me on several occasions that they would not have achieved what they achieved without me. Those were pivotal moments. "
I myself find compliments from close family and friends really tug at my heart strings but from strangers make me smile with a bit happiness that I have been noticed. I almost forgot I got given a thank you card from a lady that organized some talks that I spoke at, I thought that was very nice that she had taken the time out to do that |

If I may explain, some years before, my car broke down in the middle of nowhere in France. This was pre international use of mobile phones. So we were pretty much stranded. A family pulled up and offered to take us to a town with a phone box, this was 15 miles away, whilst I was in the phone box they went and bought us bread and pate. They then took me back to the car and apologised that they could not wait as they had to get home for the ladies mother.
From that day I vowed I would never see anyone stranded. So yes compassion breeds compassion |

Walking along the high street minding my own business when I was approached by a guy maybe a bit younger than me or the same age who stopped me and said "I really hope you don't mind me saying, but you are very, very, attractive, one of the most attractive women I have seen a in a long while" and then he walked off. Made my day that's for sure and what a lovely surprise. |

when i was 20 i was a single parent and had lots of problems and lost a lot of weight. my mum said i should put some weight on because i looked awful and it hurt my feelings because i had very little confidence. then when i was on my own with my dad he said i was an attractive girl and i looked like one of the girls on s angels, that meant a lot to me. |

we look after our elderly disabled neighbour,she had to have her leg amputated last year and while she was recovering she told my wife that she's never had a family but if she did she would want a daughter just like her,Ali was in bits |

It wasnt said but done...
on my 18th birthday and i lived in brum and it was a live in job...
I was laying the tables in the executive dining room and suddenly the door burst open and the telephone engineer who was bloody gorgeous...came in..grabbed me in his arms and kissed the life out of me and then said "happy birthday elly"
then walked back out of the door.
I must have stood there stunned for ages
That was the best kiss ive ever had |

on my 18th birthday and i lived in brum and it was a live in job...
I was laying the tables in the executive dining room and suddenly the door burst open and the telephone engineer who was bloody gorgeous...came in..grabbed me in his arms and kissed the life out of me and then said "happy birthday elly"
then walked back out of the door.

Had a few lovely comments from parents of children I have nursed but most moving was from the mother of a nine year old thanking me for staying on after the end of a very long shift until her daughter passed away. She thanked me for crying with them  . Had cared for her for seven years and boy was that emotional! |

A bloke at work said that I'm like a little ray of sunshine and I always make him smile when I go to see him. He didn't mean it in a pervy way, he was totally genuine. I liked that. |

The day after New Year's day this year, I was walking to a friend's flat at night when I was approached by a couple in a car who were asking for directions to the sick childrens hospital in Edinburgh as their 5 year old son was pretty ill.
After trying to explain how to get there, I realised that the best, and quickest thing to do was just drive them myself since it is quite difficult to navigate there. Plus, looking at the child, I was close to calling an ambulance as he really was rather ill.
After driving them there, I wished them the best of luck and they kindly offered to pay for a taxi to my friend's flat which I declined.
However, they did say a huge thank you and that gestures like that restore one's faith in people and society!
In all honesty, I was simply doing what anyone else would have done but of course it does give you a nice feeling helping others. |

I have been called that by somebody at work and at first I thought it was a bit odd but then I realised how genuine the intention had been and also it was from a person much older - so I thought it was lovely |

That is really kind - I do think that we feel better for doing something for somebody else rather than for ourselves at times. |
