How do you do small talk? I for one am terrible, I take after my dad and gdad. We part facts on the uninitiated but when in a group you talk random subjects but I have no idea how to talk without bringing the subject to a halt?

The weather, the journey to get to where you are, the music you like, the work you do, the hobbies you have, the latest book/film/TV show you read or watched. Questions and answers back and forth make small talk.

Just ask them what the weathers like, or how they found lockdown

Conversely, just think about how you engage with new people at work in that getting to know you phase.

Don’t just talk about yourself and don’t just ask them probing questions.

Oddly enough my dad and gdad were both engineers. Clearly it's hazards of the job

Just find a nerd that loves talking about widgets and sprockets and you'll never shut up

Which would work if I was in engineering but I'm in healthcare, there's some interesting topics in medicine but most don't know or care till it effects them

Try to stick to open questions.

Who, what, when, where questions are less likely to meet with a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer (and create the opportunity for you to follow up their answer with another open question).

I can’t do banal small talk …. It drives me insane, especially if I have to drive the conversation. I usually move on …

Op, ask open questions about the other person's life.

How far did you come to be here?

How long have you had this job?

Do you mind if my corgi shits on your shoe?

Please explain to us how the donkey is going to stop it's cock rubbing on the floor all day long with no back legs

Ask questions about them, their life and things they like and things that they do not. Consider answering the same questions and after they have given you their opinion you can agree or tell them yours if different and move on to asking why or why not.

Then do the whole process with them asking about you, especially if they enjoy asking the questions.

He's gonna have to do handstands in order to achieve penetration the poor bigger. How long do you think it would take him to catch her whilst running on his front legs (presumably backwards) and then when he did manage to miraculously slot it in there how long is it feasible to keep it up there before he cums or she walks off?

How's that for some fucked up small talk

Always struggled with making small and this thing ‘banter’. No social interactions these days so unlikely to get any practice!

Be less of a television announcer, who is pushing information on to others and more of an interactive engaging flirt. You don't need to be much different from engaging with just 1 other person, when with several. The conversation will have a rhythm, so being in harmony with that will help your engagement to be a part of the flow and less like changing from 1 radio station to another of a different type - Radio 3 to Capital, for example.

Observe what 1 person does and pick out something they do that seems positive. Try it out.

Don't overthink things at the time, as it could make you more inward focused. Practice 1 small change to your approach at a time.

You're still unique and will have habituated some of your current style. People will still value you, even if you're self-critical.

I'm fecking hopeless at small talk if it's via messages, I think it's something to do with my adhd and dyslexia. In real life I'm fine but as soon as I need to write it down, it goes to tits and I delete, rewrite, delete etc, then there's no natural flow like a real life conversation. It's also why I don't post that often, a simple two line post can take 10mins to complete
