David Tenant - rebooted version
Tom Baker and Peter Davidson - original
I'm not a fan of the current one and am hoping her replacement is an improvement. I do like the lady who plays the "other" doctor though. |

---Ditto with Tom Baker and Davison, who is really underrated imo. I'd go for Capaldi with the new ones, though apparently he didn't get the best of the scripts. Although I must admit I've only seen a few of each reboot doctor (and none of Ecclescakes).
A quirky/bouncy rainbow action doll strikes me as a decidedly geeky-male idea of a female Dr Who. I don't care about her sex (though I do remember the 'Bisto Woman' Mrs Oxo giving birth to a boy in the 80's, but it's scifi so you can do it all I guess) but the programme was already 'PC' enough for me in the reboots I've seen. The Whittaker writing I saw seemed far too weak. Back in the Baker/Davison era, the sonic screwdriver was seen as bit of a lazy 'plot crowbar' and actually banned for a number of years! I kept seeing her buzzing it.
I think they need to get women behind the scenes before anything else, but there are still all men as far as I can see (at least what I noticed looking at her 1st series). There are some decent female scifi writers out there, but I think they brought in one women who specialised in children's fiction. A female show runner would have been less patronising and would have automatically done a better job imo.
Jodie Whittaker herself comes across a little too 'girl power' talking about it all to me too. Not being a parent I can't really enjoy it vicariously, I don't have that outlet. It has to be family tv for me at least, not just for kids and primarily for girls as it seems. It's a pain, because though I'm 51 I still feel entitled to Doctor Who!-- |

I don't get the hate for Jodie. She just is the Doctor. The show has been shit since she took over but none of that is her fault. She walked it. Just wish they'd give her some decent lines and some well written stories. Moffat is the enemy not Jodie. |

"Peter Capaldi although I’ve met both Peter Davidson and Collin Baker and they were great fun to chat with "
Glad you rate Capaldi. Seems I'm alone in thinking he was good sometimes. I liked that he wasn't the moral compass for once.
Tenant and Baker are always gonna get the top accolades quite rightly. The interesting discussion is which of the others do you like. |

Capaldi had some of my favourite speeches of all the Doctors, the one that always comes to mind is the scale model of war in zygon invasion |

Also there isn’t a Doctor I don’t like, each one has been different and brought something different, Jodie for instance I thought was brilliant but let down by the writing |

I'm fine with Tennant as an actor (a voice actor especially) but he isn't even half way up my favourite Whos!
The first five Doctors were all better imo.
From what I've seen, I rate Tennant, Smith and Capaldi (who could have rivalled Tom Baker) all about the same - so they all share 5th from bottom above Whittaker (who hasn't worked at all for me) and Colin Baker, Mccoy and Eccleston - who I rate all about the same and who all had their moments.
My fave is Tom Baker, followed by Davison and then the very first three (Hartnell, Troughton and Pertwee) who again I rate around the same.--

--She's normally a good actress and she'd done some scifi, but I hold her at least partly responsible for her character. But I think that if she was asked to do it completely differently (or they even had a change of tack with her!) and of course the scrips were better too - then she would have been absolutely fine, maybe even one of the best who knows. -- |

"Going to be very controversial and say none of them. Dr Who is one of those programmes that has never done anything for me. Generally love sci fi/fantasy just not Dr Who."
--It's almost always been either a bit camp, too underfunded or, especially now, over-written and produced - so you're not the only one I'm sure. Most real sci-fi fans tend to think of it when working at it's very-best I think.-- |

New Series? Capaldi. He was simply incredible. The scripts were not at all. He had loved Dr Who as a kid, and it really showed in his performances. Watching him grow as a character was fantastic.
Jodie on the other hand
Her first episode was good. And I was one of the vocal ones willing her on to do well..but dear fucking god. She did zero research in the character, even openly admitting she did so. And It shows.
This latest Sea Devil episode, had the lowest over night rating of Dr Who in history. A record previously held by an episode of Capaldi. Which was shown on a Saturday evening when people were out drinking etc. People can sugarcoat it as much as they want, but Jodie and Chibnall will not be missed |

Dr who is part of our tv history and its good that budgets and special effects have moved on let's hope the next show runner finds a good Dr see what I did there if the guy who plays the good doctor in the TV series the good Dr and Norman bates in the Bates motel where
older then he be perfect for the role
.but just thought of another Dr that
would be good hugh lawrie we need and older grumpy Dr like the original Dr house would have been perfect too instead of capaldi. |

Another thought as much as I don't like Dr who played by a woman or fucked about trying to put today's society thinking in to appeal to a wider audience thus alienating traditional fans .but one thing I'm in favour of is killing off this current Dr .but if they bring in another woman
Surname Jones with her gentle man Jack character would be good.just a thought . |

Capaldi, Pertwee and Davison.
Going to spout an unpopular opinion here: although I did love his performance and story ark, I do think David Tennant’s run is overrated. He’s good, but not the epitome of the character that people seem to rave about. In my humble opinion, of course |
