Youse or y'all is regional for the plural you, which has fallen out of use in formal English (but is still present in most languages, and can be quite useful to have) |

Both sound as bad.
Happy to hear the spoken word of different dialects but confused why it is written.
You are incorrect if you think Bizzies etc is dialect, it's not, it's slang.

It is written in some books. Many people use those and many other words from the Scots language, but they don't realise that.
I didn't think it was a criticism. There are many words in every dialect that sound alien those from other regions. A word that is used widely around here is ken, as in to know. I'm not aware of anywhere else in Scotland where it is used. |

I have heard the term ken but never seen it written, not so much in books but in forums and Facebook groups and I was just curious why folks from Scotland actually write these words while Welsh and Irish tend not to.
Again, not a criticism just curious.

It could either be a learned behaviour as the words are spoken very widely or they don't know the English form of the word.
And it you go up to the north east coast, eeeeeeek. Even I don't know half the words they use. |

Not bad English as such, but people who add FACT (in capitals, as in shouting) to something they've written.
As if adding that is likely to give any vestige of credibility to whatever bullsh*t they're spouting!

The word "So" at the beginning of every sentence.
It seems to be everywhere.
TV interviews especially.
Tell me Mr blogs why do you think we have less fish in the sea.
So, it could be pollution.
Why.
If you feel the need to place a random word at the beginning of every sentence pick different words like scrotum or twat.
Does my fkn swede in. |

"The word "So" at the beginning of every sentence.
It seems to be everywhere.
TV interviews especially.
Tell me Mr blogs why do you think we have less fish in the sea.
So, it could be pollution.
Why.

My English is shocking I have to confess but I’d say it’s more abbreviations that lose my mind ie txt instead of text it’s only one letter difference … |

'I was sat' when they mean 'sitting'.
Would they say 'shat' instead of 'shitting'?

I've noticed a lot of people using the phrase "to which" out of context recently e.g. "I was walking along the pavement when a large group of people approached, to which I moved to the side" |

Using are instead of our. Seen this a lot recently.
Using was instead of were. For example, what was you doing?
There, their, they’re being confused. |

Affect is a verb
Effect is a noun

Mainly spellings like not knowing the difference between:
Your and you’re
Their, there and they’re
And Americanisation of words using a “z” instead of an “s” (or should I say Americanization), and dropping the “u” from words like color instead of colour |

All my life ( maybe not the last 1 to 2 decades ) I believed FISH was a plural.
One fish , two fish , three fish ....... makes sense to me.
Two fishes ? I don't think so. Yet I find the word fishes used in this context.
I mean I fish , He fishes, She fishes, We fish , They fish .....
Sheep ...... One sheep , two sheeps ...... No! No! I say....
In truth, I don't give two fuckses. |

I'm similar with 'you know' at the start of sentences. Think Blair may have started it off. Makes it appear that the recipient (usually a tv audience) is in agreement that what they say is reasonable, that they're inclusive, approachable and is manipulative in that it's rhetorical so invites you to agree. Also comes across as more gentle as well as being conversational, so designed to break down potential barriers between the viewer and the speaker, and lowers possible resistance to what they're saying.
Grinds my goat!

I thought that 'Hit me up' was code for "I need fisting"! |
