Totally agree! But those that think it's OK to keep this "sport" are totally blinkered! Like flogging a dead horse! They won't see it any other way sadly! Sad to hear of the injury and death as per usual! X

Not true in the the slightest. Once they have finished their racing career a high percentage are discarded without a thought for their future welfare. A commodity only as long as they are useful.

absolute bollocks. Tying their tongue doesn't hurt them, actually helps as it stops them swallowing it and choking, random drug tests so no drugs given to numb pain and horses can bleed running around the field. Nearly every horse that's in exercise with have an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage at some stage, not just a racehorse. Most of the time you won't even know and it's only in extreme cases that a horse will bleed from the nose and all that's required is rest. And shooting them doesn't happen even close to the amount of times the antis will have you believe.

Mine didn’t come in, but I do know a couple of the Jockeys will likely be investigated for using the crop too many times (max is 3)

Also, “tongue tying”’s proper term is “Winding”, where they pin the horses tongue down. It’s a banned practise and has been for a while.

Also, any horse discovered to have been cobalted is immediately disqualified and jockey/trainer thrown out.

I don't need to believe it,I know it. I own horses,I train horses,i spent 6 hours today sorting his equipment, cleaning his box, washing him, brushing him, sorting his feeds, sorting his training facilities and just generally watching him munch on a pile of hay. I actually know what I'm talking about unlike yourself. Maybe go along to a training facility and educate yourself.

My god, where do you get this nonsense from? The max is not 3,its 8(7 if its a flat race) and tongue tying is not banned and is not called winding. Pick up a racing post and look at the the letters beside their name. The "T" is for tongue tied. For something that is banned they are pretty blatant at admitting it and they have to declare the horse is running with a tongue tie to the authorities. There's hardly a horse been found with excess cobalt and they aren't immediately disqualified even if they are found.

Actually 3 horses have died during the event on Friday Solwara One was injured and had to be killed. Elle Est Belle died of a suspected heart attack in an earlier race on Saturday and Discorama died after being pulled up with an injury before the 13th fence in the National itself. Not saying whats right or wrong (thats for people to decide for themselves). Just pointing out 3 horses have died so they arent all back in their stables.

Dismantle the horse racing industry. No more exploitation of the equine world. Be it racing, show jumping, military procession, hunting, working fields and farms, donkey rides at the beach, wedding processions, funeral processions, cart pulling, props in porn flicks and findus crispy pancakes.... it's all exploitation! Everyone involved in equine 'cruelty' will just have to learn to code....let the gee-gees run wild and free. Just like in the new forest

I had 2,3 and 5th. I bet every year and the cheltenham festival. Unfort its a sport where a horse can be injured or die. That can happen in any sport or normal day to day life. Majority of the horses are well looked after throughout their racing life. I know of a few farms that get donated retired racehorses for them to enjoy the rest of their life in a field with others. Good on them i say

So you think its acceptable to put animals at risk of suffering a painful prolonged death as long as youre entertained. Would you like that if someone forced your kids to do something that put them through the same trauma.

So what about polo, using horses to hit a ball around and some get injured by a flying stick/ball.

The dog sled running? Show jumping and cross country? There are so many sports using animals.

These horses are looked after and loved by their trainers and groomsmen, to the point where they are treated like royalty.

No, I hate seeing the tent around one but it can unfortunately happen.

My best friend has been riding horses since she was little. She's late 40s now and has had one euthanised as it became lame after a hack in the country. Should horse riding be banned too???

I do not like seeing animal cruelty in any form so please stop having a go. It's easy to sit behind your screen and criticise others isn't it?

"So horse dies = ban all racing.

Footballer dies = ban all football.

Cyclist dies = ban all cycling

Boxing etc you get the point.

Its not how it works in the real world, even of you want it to.

Nope just the ones involving animals x"

That's because you said you care more for animals than people.

Honest question, what would you do with all the thoroughbreds if racing ended tomorrow?

I've rescued one myself. But most people wouldn't. With the stable fees and feeding and vet Bill's involved.

You'd have to kill them all.

That way, they'd be safe

Yeah your right that's probably what would happen, but is that better than them racing?

Plus with the money involved around the world it's just not going to happen.

I think the most realistic option would be them bring treated in a nice way and I know alot of people involved in horses love them and do care and put their own time and money into it.

And all the owners should have to put a small amount into a fund so that once retired the race horses can have a place to life peacefully.

Some of the comments on this thread, apart from being totally inaccurate, are verging on ridiculous. People commenting about something they quite clearly have little or no knowledge of whatsoever. My entire working life I have made my living working on the coal face of the Horseracing/veterinary industry.

Drives me bloody mad!

I'm the same I love animals and have far too many of them, I cant help loving them.

Theres alot of issues I really don't like ie halah meet how can that be allowed? But I cant do anything about all this things going on so I just do the best I can.

I know people do a lot of protesting outside the greyhound places, but I dont see what that does.

I wish there was more places for them to live. If I win the euros I'm buying land and all the animals can live there.

This . I avoid commenting on these usually and just read. I’ve had horses most of my life. You can’t argue with people who haven’t got a clue. Pointless.

Its best not to engage, you can't argue with people who aren't thinking rationally.

And yes, there is a lot of made up stats and comments that are individual circumstance, rather that evidence-based research.

"I had 2,3 and 5th.

Unfort i am unable to have any kids, so that wont happen to me. Please dont preach to me about it. Animals and humans are at more risk doing normal day to day risk
