...on the number of forum threads you can start - daily, weekly or monthly?
Would it make the forums more interesting and cut down on some of the 'thread for the sake of a thread' threads often seen?
Would it make the place more inviting to lurkers and new site members who might be put off by the same names popping up as much as they do?
Would it dispell any claims of a clique?
It would perhaps make for a much tidier forum and be environmentally friendly too, given there's only a finite supply of internet ink and paper out there.
Just a thought.......

Nope. The trouble is most folk on the forum are busy fucking each other so the forum posters of old are now tied up (literally in some cases!).
A new guard has come in to take over the mantle. Which must be good surely otherwise the forums would die a death?

No, but I do think you should be able to close a thread to stop all the duplicates - sometimes you see 2 or 3 of the same type of thread at the same time (face pic Friday as example) |

Eh, it reminds me of a real life party in here. Some peeps are the centre of attention, some peeps are lurking round the corners, some peeps are keeping the chuckles going and some, the most important, are coming up with new topics of conversation.
I’m shite at that last one so glad of those who take up the heavy lifting for me |

Yes I'd have to agree with the OP Some ppl are serial thread posters in the hope to get noticed but their posts can be cringe or just downright silly. A limit would certainly cut down on the ridiculousness of some posts and most likely make for more interesting topics/ chats

"Yes a limit for threads and posts. People might stop posting absolute worthless shite if they had a limit of 20 posts a day. "
Nah we post worthless shite because we don’t have anything meaningful to add. |

"Yes a limit for threads and posts. People might stop posting absolute worthless shite if they had a limit of 20 posts a day. "
And then a limit to the amount of replies we can give?
Where would it stop?
It’s up to us as users to entertain the shite or not. |

Less repetition would be nice but that would involve people searching for old posts and that won't happen either
Less desperation and wanted ads too.
I avoid all the obvious junk threads by the same posters over and over again . . . . . . |

No way.
I don't understand your point about starting a thread for the sake of it because is that not all threads are about really, None of them are really a necessity. |

Why would it make the rest of the forum more interesting? People can post what you consider ridiculous posts as well as other people posting interesting ones it's not one or the other. |

Why are you assuming this is aimed at you?
(Also, why do you keep pressing enter and not talking in complete sentences?) |

This thread was aimed at people who post number of threads daily weekly of which I'm one.
I m dyslexic and have to go through
My posts to be sure they make sence .I'm using a crappy old phone
To type on and find it difficult to
Reply in these boxes. It either comes out as one long sentence or spread out sorry if that makes things difficult. |

99% of my replies get ignored anyway. I really do wonder why I post sometimes. Que, someone posting, "who said that". Please don't it hurts. Mr is away lots, and its my way to have interaction, and feel part of something. Even when I'm alone. |

Absolutely.
Limit everyone to 365 threads per year.
We’re happy to auction 360 of ours to the highest bidder.
Then start a new forum called Threadbay with the remaining five to use for the auction.

Why is it 175? Seems a random number |

It’s because 175 is the binary limit for pie and is easily divisible by 14 and also the number directly preceding one hundred and seventy six. |

The majority of all posts get "ignored". Most don't get replied to. That doesn't mean they're not read, agreed or disagreed with or that they don't make someone guffaw. Plenty of people type things that make me think or laugh, and I rarely tell the poster that. It doesn't mean they are unappreciated
And in answer to the question, no. There should be no limit in posts. Random crazy posts are what the forum is about. You never know when one might inspire pure comedy gold and fly |

OK. Off to work for a bit but having read all the responses here's my initial feedback. I won't reply individually as a.) Would take too long and b.) Would clog the thread up.
If your comment relates to something along the lines of 'who are you to decide what people post', then congratulations on missing the point entirely. This wasn't a 'quality control' question. I wasn't suggesting some almighty power should decide what gets posted and what doesn't, what's a good topic and what's not, or what is repetitive crap you see every day and what's new, original and amusing. It was simply about a limit on thread posts. If someone can honestly come up with 20 posts a day that are original, entertaining and of useful value then I'd say crack on....but I'd be bloody amazed if that was ever to happen. It's clear as daylight that a small minority spam the forums (lounge in particular) on a daily basis, not in terms of comments on threads but in the volume they start. I always thought there was a rule against that buy hey - I could be wrong of course.
Secondly, this thread wasn't aimed at any specific posters so if your comment above was based on you taking this thread personally and your reply was hugely defensive then maybe, just maybe, that means it made you think about your forum activity. Which is good.
If you agreed with my suggestion then that doesn't mean you or I are right. The aim wasn't to implement any kind of change but to perhaps achieve Two objectives - to make people think a little about how they can be seen to monopolise the forums and to give new forum users the chance to air their views. Joining a swinging site is daunting enough for many without the added challenge of being the 'new kid on the block' and trying to get your voice heard amongst a very vocal crowd.
Having taken a long hiatus from the forums I've come back to find it almost identical to when I was one of the vocal, highly active, attention seeking minority that was guilty of perhaps being a tad OTT in here. And I can see now better than ever how unwelcoming it can be for anyone trying to get involved and contribute.
Just some additional thoughts.

No definitely not. I'd like a like button. And maybe a way of limiting reply and quote so you don't have to scroll lots. And maybe a note on here on how to search the forum so we don't get so much duplication |
